The story of "Valley of the Wind" takes place 1,000 years after the destruction of modern civilization, when the earth's ecology is not only desertified everywhere, but also faces the erosion of a forest called "Rotten Sea"--- which is full of poisonous spores, and humans will die if they eat it.
The people who survive in this era regard the sea of corruption as the root cause of evil and are determined to use various methods to hinder their spread.
However, the Sea of Decay is also pregnant with all kinds of rare monsters, and one of them, called the "King Worm", is a giant beast that humans are far from being able to match.
Therefore, for a long time, human beings have only been able to stay away from the sea of corruption and live in some remaining safe areas.
Our eldest heroine, "Nausicaa", lives in a canyon called the Valley of the Winds by the sea, which is constantly protected from the "poisonous spores" by the strong sea breeze.
But this is not the case for the inhabitants outside the Valley of the Winds. Displacement has become the norm, and wars have often broken out between countries in order to compete for resources, making the environment that was already depressed enough to become more and more turbulent.
So at the beginning of the plot, when I saw the heroine's decision on "Dorumechia" to prevent the "awakening of the giant god soldiers of a thousand years ago" and "the invasion of the Pegget nation",
I do have a bit of a "why not eat meat" idea--- isn't what people do for the sake of the people of their own country? Is this something that your pampered princess can object to?
But apparently, the later plot punched me in the face. And this experience also made me deeply understand the main theme of the whole "Valley of the Wind" ---

In the first half of the plot, we do see one terrifying and terrifying rotten sea forest after another--- all kinds of ugly-looking beasts, and all kinds of chaotic and dangerous precipitous environments (poisonous gas, storms).
Moreover, the beasts will also ignore all obstacles when they run away, until the prey is swallowed up.
So is this so-called sea of decay really the root cause of human misery today?
No! In fact, at the beginning of the second half of the plot, we have already followed Nausicaa's adventures to glimpse the truth of the Sea of Corruption--- they are not the source of disaster, they only appear here to purify the ecology of a certain area.
Therefore, we can also see that there is a large hole in the pleasant air under the terrifying Rotten Sea Forest, and the water flowing here is also clean and pollution-free.
To put it bluntly, the so-called Sea of Corruption is actually just cleaning up the mess for the curses planted by mankind thousands of years ago.
This is a prophetic insight, and Gong Lao has broken through the cognitive dislocation of man and nature--- the two sides are not hostile relations, but common ecological builders.
But even if the truth is so simple and easy to understand, what about it? Let's take a look at the words of the righteous male protagonist when he peeked into the truth of the Sea of Corruption:
"But we can't live forever in the shadow of the miasma swarm, and find a way to stop the spread of the sea of decay."
This is also another insight of Gong Lao, which highlights the contradiction between human beings' "short-term interests" and the "long-term sustainable development" pursued by nature.
"Yes, who doesn't know that plastics will cause serious damage to the ecology, but it is inconvenient not to use them."
"Who doesn't know that excessive logging will cause soil erosion, but there are not enough wood raw materials, how to cope with the supply of disposable appliances and home improvement building materials?"
In real life, we can see such contradictory scenes everywhere, of course, what we see every day is only a small case, and in the contradiction depicted in "Valley of the Wind", it is really related to the fate of mankind.
So the question is, is this so-called "short-term and long-term" contradiction really irreconcilable? In the face of increasing material demand, can human beings really only fight against nature endlessly?
I am not in a position to answer this question, but fortunately, Old Master Gong has also brought us constructive advice--- the so-called short-term interests of human beings are often just delusional delusions. In the face of nature, there is no opportunity for human bargaining.
The military empire Dorumechia has always been interested in obtaining the power of the "Giant God Soldier" and using it to conquer the whole world and burn the Rotten Sea.
Although the people's customs are slightly simple and the means are not as extreme as the military empire, the country where the male protagonist Asbelu is located, he always believes that he can clean the earth with the fire of the plains.
But at the end of the plot, we are surprised to find that all this is just a delusion.
In the face of the rampaging army of king worms, all means will be instantly dwarfed into a trick of the family, and in the face of nature's counterattack, human beings do not have the ability to move at all.
Can this be called confrontation? Or is it just a means of self-destruction?
Different from the hidden will buried in Spirited Away, Gong Lao's whipping in the Valley of the Wind can be described as very naked.
And the "giant god soldiers" that appeared in the play that destroyed the world in just seven days a thousand years ago, judging from their attack methods and the ecological impact of the next thousand years, it is actually not difficult for us to associate with "nuclear weapons".
But the question is, a thousand years ago, human beings with such a high level of technology could not unify the world, so why do people think that they can overcome nature in today's era of such a low standard of living?

What "can be learned from the past", what "human beings are the only rational creatures in nature", indeed, different from the king worm will only be straight for their companions' rampage, only understand the simple and rough rampage, human tricks can simply be called another dimensional existence.
But so what? In the face of "desire" and "ignorance", human beings will always repeat the same mistakes again and again, and it seems that they will not stop until the extinction of species.

Specific to the plot, we even see that Nausicaa, who has always adhered to the concept of harmony, was furious when her father was killed by Dorumechia's army, and she stabbed the lives of several soldiers on the other side.

If the virtuous and righteous heroine is still like this, then how can you say that the world is divided between countries and countries to eliminate the war and chaos?
In fact, such a heartfelt and exquisite plot comes from Miyako's insight into the Yugoslav civil war: "The so-called war seems to be a righteous act, but once it begins, no matter what kind of war it is, it will become eroded."
The gears of fate have never stopped since they were pushed thousands of years ago, and human beings have gradually lost themselves in the process of turning again and again, and finally towards the abyss of death.
How is it good?
The core purpose of each of Gong Lao's works lies in this "wrong act of alerting and flogging mankind".
But the plot point conveyed by "Nausicaäu" does not stop there, he also tells us that --- nature actually tolerates human beings all the time.
From the beginning of the plot, the giant god soldier's baby egg fell into the Valley of the Wind by mistake, and the king worm that sensed such a disaster only stood on the edge of the sea of decay to look out, and did not make an attack on humans.
Later, Nausicaa and Princess Dorumechia mistakenly entered the Sea of Corruption and made a move to shoot and disturb the living beings, but they were still forgiven.
And at the end of the plot, it is clear that his cubs have been so brutally injured by humans, and the attack of the giant god soldiers has also destroyed countless king worm creatures, but in the end he can still give up the attack on humans for Nausicaa's courage.
He also used his own energy to resurrect Nausicaa's life.
Nature has always given human beings endless tolerance, even if thousands of years ago, human ancestors destroyed the entire ecology for their own desires, and today's human beings are still unrepentant, nature is also treated with tolerance.
