The Indian Pond Heron (scientific name: Ardeola grayii) is a bird of the genus Heron in the family Heronidae, listed on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) ver 3.1: 2008 Red List of Birds, mainly distributed in Eurasia and northern Africa, the Indian subcontinent and southwestern China, southwestern Xinjiang, Indochina Peninsula and southeast coastal areas of China.
After taking the image of the bird, the Management and Conservation Bureau immediately consulted the bird experts of the Kunming Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. According to experts, the Indian pond heron found in JianHu this time is very rare in China, and since its first discovery in Kashgar, Xinjiang, in 2014, the observation record has not exceeded 3 times.
In recent years, Jianchuan County has increased the protection and management of Jianhu Wetland, accelerated the protection and management of Jianhu Lake and wetland restoration, continued to improve the habitat environment of birds, and the number and variety of birds living and breeding in Jianhu Lake have been increasing, and the ecological environment has continued to improve. This year, nearly 10 new bird species such as chestnut-throated hummingbird, Indian pond heron and whiskered floating gull have been newly discovered in the Jianhu Wetland Provincial Nature Reserve. 12 national second-level protected animals such as the painted ibis, as well as rare birds such as the pincer-billed stork, have settled in Jianhu Lake to breed, and nearly 30 summer migratory birds have also been monitored, and have begun to build nests and breed in the Wetland of Jianhu Lake. There are 1678 purple water chickens, which is the largest purple water chicken population in the country.
