In the morning, in the Ziyun Road of the Economic Development Zone, the greening workers carefully searched for the worm egg troughs and fecal holes on the sidewalk trees, and every time they found a worm hole, they took out a small glass bottle to enter, and there were some sesame-sized objects in the bottle that slowly climbed into the worm hole. The person in charge of the urban management bureau of the district said that recently, the greening maintenance unit inspected and found that there were tianniu insect pests on the street trees such as Fawu, weeping willow, and red leaf plum, and the tianniu grew vigorously, and in just a few days, the trunk of the tree could be mothed out of a pile of wood chips. In order to protect the trees from insect pests, the urban management department decided to release swollen-legged bees for prevention and control.
The reporter learned from the relevant plant protection experts that tianniu is a kind of drilling moth pest, due to the habit of drilling wood, it greatly affects the normal growth and development of trees, making the tree weak, easy to be broken by the wind, and when the tree is seriously endangered by the tianniu, it will lead to the death of the whole plant.
Tianniu has a huge family system, and the more common ones are Star Tianniu, Peach Neck Tianniu, Cloud Spot Tianniu, Thin-winged Saw Tianniu and so on. Before laying eggs, the celestial cow bites the bark out of the slot and then hides it in the slot to lay eggs. The hatched larvae feed on xylem upwards or downwards and open their bark as vents, pushing out excrement and wood chips outward. When the celestial cow matures, it pupates in the tree, and when the adults feather, they drill a hole outward and leave.
Treat insects with insects, and release swollen-legged bees to control tianniu
The person in charge of the urban management department said that the prevention and control of tianniu can be used in a variety of methods, the adult spawning period, with a shovel to kill the eggs in the incubation tank; the larval stage often checks the branches, finds that there is fresh insect feces, and use pesticides to kill; adult insects have suspended death, can shake the branches in the morning or after the rain, and the adult insects are shocked to the ground to kill.
In addition, in recent years, local garden departments have begun to use the release of biological predators such as swollen-legged bees to control the Tianniu. In the Hefei Economic Development Zone, the greening maintenance unit has released about 25,000 bottles of swollen leg bees on key sections such as Ziyun Road, Lotus Road, Jinxiu Avenue, and Emerald Lake Scenic Area.
