When I was more than half a hundred years old and returned to my hometown to teach, especially I got to know Master Zhang Hai, the captain of the shipyard of the East China Sea Fleet, who gave me breeding pigeons, lent me books to read, and after he introduced my experience, he "orthodox" began to raise carrier pigeons.
In this way, I also joined the research of pigeon breeding, breeding and training. Here's a bit of a rough approach to communicate with fanciers.

The training flight I conducted was divided into two categories, one was the "two black" family flight training flight, and the other was the 5-50 km primary training flight. Both types of training have been conducted simultaneously for nearly two years.
Every morning the sky is not yet light, sometimes the ground is sprinkled with soft moonlight, sometimes black hole holes, sometimes foggy, rainy, snow fluttering, the author uses a flashlight to illuminate the carrier pigeon out of the door, the other hand with a stick to drive out of the door to fly into the sky, and then the author runs.
People run long distances on the ground, and pigeons practice flying in the sky. This makes people feel "like smoke and the past is forgotten, and the heart is selfless and wide." "No matter the spring, summer, autumn and winter, the wind, snow, rain and fog, they are persistent and uninterrupted.
When they arrived home at night, the first thing they did was to drive them to the sky again to practice flying, and an hour later it was dark, turn on the lights in the pigeon loft, and they saw it in the sky and immediately gathered their wings and returned to the nest to eat and drink. So often.
A month before the race, a training session of 5 to 50 kilometers will be held. I think of this as a sport and as a fun fitness activity.
On Sunday, he rode a bicycle and took the pigeons of the year to practice directional training in the southeast, northwest and four directions, training pigeons, killing two birds with one stone.
From June to July 1989, jiangsu, Anhui, Hunan, Gansu and other provinces and a northwest race line rained for two or three months continuously, which was very unfavorable for the return of carrier pigeons.
At that time, one of the author's Jiangsu Hanjiang (069-03) sand-eyed raindrop fought tenaciously in the wind and rain, flew 1,000 kilometers in Xi'an in three days, and won the runner-up of Hanjiang County in Yangzhou City.
I think that if you don't go through more than a year of rigorous training and don't train your iron wings in the wind, snow, rain and fog, I am afraid it will be difficult to return home. Well-trained carrier pigeons not only increase the velocity but also the return rate. In recent years, the homing rate of the author on thousands of kilometers has reached 90%-100%, which is an example.

The author loves to visit and chat, pigeon fanciers feed several meals a day have their own advantages: there are three meals a day, there are two meals, there is a meal, there is a meal every other day, there are also usually not fed...
In my early days, I raised pigeons with three meals a day. In July 1994 the 2000 km pigeons were collected, fed and drunk. Due to the remoteness of the residence far from the city, the information is not fast, and the pigeon collection is postponed for two days.
In the evening, the pigeon escort personnel sent the carrier pigeons home for 2,000 kilometers, and they saw that they behaved very differently from those when they went out: shrugging their eyelids, frowning, and slow to move, and two days later, the ultra-long-distance result was "the yellow crane is gone, and the white clouds are long-lasting."
Several experiments have made me think that feeding pigeons, three meals a day, is obviously inappropriate as the rules of human life.
A fancier in Zhenjiang does not feed all day long, which he believes will return the carrier pigeons to nature. During this time, they do not lay eggs, forage outside during the day to survive, and then feed when they are in the race, which is managed by him to return home for 1500 kilometers.
I think this is too harsh to treat them, and there must be conditions for wild food.
After several years of experimentation and research, I think that two meals a day and one meal are better; if you take one meal a day or one meal every other day, it is more beneficial to put ultra-remote. The author adopted this method, and the ultra-remote Lanzhou returned to the nest one after another.

There are many pairing methods: there are eye sand matching, there is body shape matching, there is Chinese and foreign matching, there is external matching, there are distant relatives matching, there is a performance matching, there is a kind of line matching.... The author did a little experiment, and the target was super remote homing. First of all, breed the pigeons well.
The so-called "good" means that the blood is hard, the inheritance is good, and the generations have excellent performance.
I have raised 40 to 50 carrier pigeons in three lofts of about 12 square meters. Breeding management of young racing pigeons in the breeding loft.
The selection of pigeons is carried out in two ways: "flowering" and "digging a well".
The so-called "flowering" is the horizontal development of a female (or male) with two or three males (or females).
The so-called "digging well" is the development of vertical downward to the depths from generation to generation. Each generation is tested by the competition line, and those who pass the competition look for a spouse to develop the next generation. Five generations later, the blood picked the seed.
The author took Master Zhang's support for my breeding pigeon Han Jiang (87-06906) raindrop sand eye male and used the above method to select a hen Chinese Jiangsu (91-122027) trachoma as the basic breeding pigeon.
Because the pigeon is full of vigor and cleverness, the body is long and the tail is first-class linear, and it is selected to be stable and reliable.
He also borrowed a from a friend in Nanjing with his female (92-541590) grey hen Lanzhou homecoming pigeon. "Digging a well" can select one generation to beat another, and gradually increase the distance and speed. But it takes time and patience.
The author also took the flowering of the Yellow-eyed of the China Carrier Pigeon Association Jiangsu (89-012869) presented by Master Wang Mingsheng of Yangzhou (because it is ultra-long-range, hard blood, good genetics, and good shape), and matched it with three females, one of which was planted by a friend of Zhenjiang.
Their son Jiangsu (92-528439) sand-eyed ink rain pigeons released lanzhou home again. After several years of trial and breeding, four parent pigeons and several ultra-long distance racing pigeons were finally found.

It is not easy for the majority of pigeons to breed pigeons that are selected for help and purchase, and they often disappear. Some of them were shot, some were detained, some were weasels, some were drugged, the most nerve-wracking thing was the drug damage, there was a pigeon keeper who raised nearly 200 pigeons, dozens of them died because of eating seeds mixed with pesticides, and they were buried several times in a row with dustpans, making them cry and laugh and almost lose confidence in raising pigeons.
How to prevent drug damage?
The first method is three meals a day, and the pigeons are half full and fly out, even if they eat a few bites of pesticide food, they will not be poisoned and die.
If they are fed only one meal a day, keep the pigeons until eight or ten in the morning or noon or evening (depending on the length of time of the day), and then they gobble up their fullness and then open the shed to fly. I have insisted on doing this for the past three or four years, so the pigeons have not been poisoned.
When to prevent drug damage? Depending on local farming.
For example: planting green beans in early April, farmers in order to prevent insects with scattered beans, at this time to prevent five to ten days; in early August vegetable farmers plant yellow sprouts, the seeds are also mixed with pesticides, at this time to prevent five to ten days; planting wheat before and after the winter, farmers use herbicides to mix wheat seeds, at this time to prevent more than half a month. If it rains, you don't have to defend on the second and third days.
