"MuYi" trailer
MuYi is mystery cottage animation studios and Julien Chheng's first animated feature film project. MuYi is a young girl who travels back to ancient China from modern times through a magical helmet to fight the injustices of the past.
The idea for the story stemmed from a trip by Julien Chheng and screenwriter Suyan Xu in Suyan's hometown of China, where they met a row of old ladies sitting on the street, and it was extremely mysterious, and they wanted to know what kind of life these old ladies had in the past, as if the puzzle was related to the problem of the abandonment of Chinese girls.
Since the story takes place in China, many Chinese elements are incorporated into the film
The heroine, MuYi, is an impulsive, adventurous teenager of our time who longs to liberate herself completely. On a forest expedition, she puts on the legendary helmet of a handsome general, and when she wears it, she will become heroic and powerful, but she will also fall into the sins hidden by the general, and she will discover the general's past. The hat would give her a taste of the privileges of the powerful.
Another character in the film is MuYi's grandmother, who will become a supporter of MuYi's heroic quest for justice and a witness to the village's past history. Her relationship with the young warrior will become crucial to understanding her new powers and distant past—the origin of the helmet.
The owner of the mysterious helmet, the handsome general, was loyal to the emperor, but the emperor did not hesitate to sacrifice his only child. In MuYi's mirror, the character questions his masculinity through a certain narcissism and his beauty. Legend has it that he was so beautiful that he distracted the soldiers. He wandered around like a ghost, trying to find his helmet.
MuYi and handsome generals are both characters who can question their gender through their attitudes and the way they see the world at different times.
Animations that have been influential to director Julien Chheng include Studio Ghibli's Princess Mononoke films, Spirited Away and The Tale of The Night Hime. In terms of combat scenes, he will look for a "martial arts" style, and in contemporary films, he is deeply influenced by director Naomi Kawase.

Director Genndy Tartakovsky had the idea of creating them about eight years ago, and in his imagination, the two men traveled everywhere and tried to survive a variety of obstacles, he wanted to tell a story that did not rely on dialogue and give voice to the protagonist and the wild world in which they lived.
At first the idea was like venturing out in a fairy tale, but as it became more concrete, Genndy Tartakovsky began to add some dark elements of the adult world to it
