Today is the 55th birthday of NBA star Dekembe Mutombo, and data expert Justin Kubatko has taken stock of the main honors and statistics of his career and wished him a happy birthday.
Mutombo joined the league in 1991 and played primarily for the Nuggets, Hawks and Rockets. He has been voted the Best Defensive Player of the Year 4 times, the Block King of 3 times, the Rebounding King of 2 times, and has been selected as an All-Star eight times.
He played in 1,196 regular-season games in his career, averaging 9.8 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game.
