At the end of the Ming Dynasty, the soldiers were in chaos. One day, when he heard that the soldiers were coming, an old man looked back at the door god and sighed, "If there were anyone like Wei Chigong and Qin Qiong today, then there would be no such situation." At that time, there were just two scholars outside the door straightening their clothes and preparing to go out of the city, and after hearing this, they argued: "This god is not Wei Chigong and Qin Qiong. The old man in the front was not convinced, and turned out Qiu Zhiji's "Journey to the West" as his own evidence; the two scholars in the back said that novels and the like could not be used as evidence, and went back indoors to take out Dongfang Shuo's "Divine Anomaly" and argue with him. Because of the argument, they actually missed the opportunity to go out of the city, and eventually the whole family was killed by the rebels.
This is a story told to us by the Qing Dynasty Ji Yun in the "Notes on Reading Wei Caotang Luanyang Continuation". This story is not a fiction, but a real thing--we don't know who the old man in the countryside is, but the two students are Ji Yun's great-uncle, that is, his great-grandfather's two brothers.
Wei Chigong and Qin Qiong were two of Tang Taizong's generals, Xiao Yong and good at war, and there are many theories about why they became door gods. From this story, it seems that in the last years of the Ming Dynasty, it is clear that the status of Wei Chigong and Qin Qiong's door gods has been unbreakable. And in the eyes of many people, if there are them, then they can ensure the peace of one side and let the people be too peaceful. Therefore, this is the old man's infinite nostalgia for Wei Chigong and Qin Qiong when the soldiers are in chaos. It is somewhat funny that the old man's words were overheard by the two scholars, and these two students were just so bookish that they raised their levers with the old man, and they both forgot that at this moment they were actually in extreme danger, and they were still quoting the scriptures to argue about who this god was!
If it is in peacetime, or in the era when the world is too peaceful and there is no rebellion among soldiers and bandits, each other can have a calm and in-depth discussion of questions such as who the door god really is, but in the chaos of the soldiers, time is the moment of life, throwing the escape aside, and pestering who the door god is, is it somewhat upside down? Is it true that we can't wait until the world is too peaceful to come back to discuss? Moreover, it is not a big deal to say who the door god really is, and it is not a big deal to be wrong or right.
Readers are easy to recognize the reason of death, and once people recognize the reason of death, then the head is often screwed up, like an elm. Can such a reader cultivate himself, govern the country, build a family, and level the world? Obviously at least there is doubt. Therefore, Ji Yun's father, Yao An Gong Ji Rongshu, said, "When a child is not studying, he should also make him know a little about family affairs and the world, and then he can rule the family and get involved in the world." He emphasized that readers should also know the fireworks of the world, understand human feelings, and understand the world. And him? The argument that "when death and life breathe, and when there is no room for occurrence, it is still necessary to examine the authenticity of ancient books, but to know how to read books and not to anticipate (consider) the reasons for foreign affairs" can be described as to the point, and the fatal weakness of pedantic students is broken. Therefore, people cannot fail to read, but they must not die reading.
