Xiong Di, no. Qiuyuan, was born in May 1900 in Paishan Village, Shengfeng Township, Huarong County, Hunan.
Xiong Di is clever and clever, from the age of 8 to 15, he studied at a private school in the countryside and was deeply appreciated by the school master Cai Ruizhi. Due to xiong di's family's poverty, the school master waived his tuition fees. Xiong Di reads very hard and has strong comprehension. Later, he himself also ran a private school in the countryside. Although he was young, he was respected by his neighbors.
Xiong Di thought that although he taught private schools, although he did something for the fathers and elders in the township, he could not change the fate of the poor. Therefore, it was decided to throw pen from Rong. In the autumn of 1924, he bid farewell to his mother and wife and went to Changsha to join Tang Shengzhi's troops. Half a year of military life has made him witness many corrupt phenomena, feel even more confused and disappointed, and unwilling to stay any longer. Before leaving, he could not even afford a ticket from Changsha to Huarong, so he had to trek more than 300 miles back to his hometown.
In his hometown, Xiong Di made some remarks about dissatisfaction with the current situation from time to time. This attracted the attention of Xu Luren, a Communist Party member who was doing underground work in Huarong Dongxiang, and he visited his door many times to do his work and encouraged him to join the revolution. He was happy to have Xu Luren's guidance, and he said to his mother: "Now, I have found a real way out!"
In the autumn of 1925, Huarong suffered a major drought that had not been encountered in a hundred years, coupled with the fact that landlords and profiteers hoarded their homes and raised the price of rice, the local authorities set up checkpoints everywhere, blocked and robbed, and even falsely called the victims who had obtained a little grain "rice bandits" and "valley bandits" and tied them up and hung them. The cannibalism of these people aroused Xiong Di's great anger. Therefore, he stepped forward and, together with Liu Yueyun and others, organized a self-help meeting for the starving people, and led the victims to beat up the rice police who took advantage of the fire in Tongziling; smashed the rice ban bureau located in Banqiao and other places; requested the distribution of jigu and liquidated the jigu account; and asked the county magistrate to issue a certificate allowing the victims to go to other places to purchase grain. He also participated in the organization of the Equal Price Committee and the Committee for the Elimination of Profiteers to crack down on those who monopolized rice and raised the price of rice.
Xiong Di showed great wit and bravery in the struggle against the reactionary forces in the countryside, and was praised by his superiors many times. In August of that year, in accordance with the deployment of the joint branch of the party group in Huarong County, he was responsible for the establishment of an exemplary township peasant association. He came to Zhenren Township to do the work of mobilizing the masses in depth. When the peasant masses were initially organized, he led the people to fight against the two big bully landlords in the local area and remove the obstacles that hindered the peasant movement. At the end of this year, the ZhenrenXiang Farmers' Association was officially established, and in the name of the Farmers' Association, he led his members to rush into the house rebuilt by the big bully Cai and open a warehouse to relieve the disaster. This move has greatly encouraged the enthusiasm of peasants in various townships to set up peasant associations. At the same time, he also organized a litigation group in the area around the city to expose the ten major crimes of Fu Daonan, the great squire and chairman of the county council, and urged the county office to eliminate harm for the people, so that this evil bully was punished as he deserved. Regarding this matter, Mao Zedong gave enthusiastic praise in his "Report on the Investigation of the Peasant Movement in Hunan", saying that "killing one, shaking the whole county, and being extremely effective in eliminating the remnants of feudalism." Huarong's peasant movement also began to unfold rapidly. After more than a year of struggle, by August 1926, Xiong Di was introduced by Cai Xiemin and Xu Luren to join the Communist Party of China. In October, the first farmers' congress was held in Huarong County, and he was elected as the vice executive chairman of the county farmers' association.
After Xiong Di joined the party, he actively worked and was determined to dedicate everything to the party's cause. Soon, in the work of organizing the Huarong Peasant Self-Defense Army and the Peasant Volunteer Brigade, he went all out with Liu Yueyun to lead the peasant army and cooperate with the Zhang Liangji battalion of the Huarong garrison to block the attack of the Cai Jian Brigade of the Sichuan Army. At the Battle of Wutiandu, he led the peasant army to attack from the flank of Jiang Jiashan and defeated Cai Jian's brigade in one fell swoop, making it dare not attack Huarong. This operation was praised by the Hunan Minbao, who praised all parts of Huarong as "the bravest members of the peasant association" and "although the soldiers were short and close, they did not retreat slightly." It shows that the people are full of enthusiasm and have no remorse. Although there was such a fierce battle because of the previous oppression, the achievements of the peasant associations were also greatly demonstrated and admired. Now more than 900 people have joined the volunteer team to help the fighters, all of whom are desperate. If you can coach into an army, you can not only defend yourself, but also train into a strong team, for the national cadre city cloud. ”
In addition, Xiong Di also led the peasant army and participated in the battle to suppress the bandits. At the end of 1926, Gong Xiyan, the son of the bully landlord Gong Jieqing, gathered a group of bandits and came to Huarong to harass them under the banner of the Ninth District Regiment of Yueyang. Xiong Di and He Kun, commander of the Headquarters of the Peasants' Self-Defense Army, led the Peasants' Self-Defense Army, together with the garrison in NanXian County, besieged the Gong bandits like iron barrels for two days, forcing the Gong bandits to surrender unconditionally.
In the spring of 1927, Xiong Di led hundreds of peasant troops to drive down Dongting Lake with a group of officials and bandits with guns to Huarong in an attempt to occupy the mountain as king, so that they did not dare to go ashore again.
On the eve of the Ma-Ri Incident, thousands of yang sen troops of the Sichuan army attempted to occupy Huarong, and after Xiong Di and He Kun learned of the information, they immediately led the peasant self-defense army to resolutely block the attack, so that the Sichuan army failed to succeed. After the Ma-Ri Incident, the Huarong Peasant Self-Defense Army once again defeated the attack of Yang Sen's troops, but could not resist the Huarong landlords' armed collusion with bandits and the Kuomintang reactionary army's fierce attack on the county town from The Transfer Pass, and had to move to the countryside, and the huarong county town was suddenly plunged into white terror. In order to cope with this sudden deterioration of the situation, Xiong Di decided to go to Wuhan to find the party organization, but unfortunately was arrested in Yueyang by the fleeing gentleman Zhang Dizhi, and on July 4 of the same year, he bravely rebelled in Yueyang at the age of 27.
