<h1>(1) Zheng Lian crushed pears</h1>
Zheng Lian (郑濂), courtesy name Zhongde, was a native of Pujiang during the Ming Dynasty. To Zheng Lian's generation, the Zheng family has not been separated for more than two hundred years, known as "Righteous Gate", Taishou gave a plaque "the first in the world". The Zheng family has always obeyed the admonition of the ancestors not to listen to the woman's words, and what we are saying here of course refers to not listening to the woman's words to do things that seek personal gain and harm the way of filial piety.
After Ming Taizu ascended the throne, he summoned Zheng Lian to the capital and asked him how many people there were in his family, and Zheng Lian replied, "There are more than a thousand people." Ming Taizu said, "It is really the first one in the world!" At that time, it was the time when Henan was paying tribute to the fragrant pear, so Ming Taizu gave Zheng Lian two fragrant pears. Zheng Lian walked home with fragrant pears in both hands, and the emperor ordered people to secretly follow behind to check.
After Zheng Lian arrived home, he summoned all the family members, then bowed to the emperor's residence, found two large vats filled with water, mashed the fragrant pears and put them into the jars, and then let all the family members drink them. The emperor was very happy to know this, so he personally wrote the three characters of "Filial Piety" and stamped it with a jade seal.
Later, someone falsely accused the Zheng family of befriending rebellious sinners, and the officials went to arrest them, and the six Zheng brothers rushed to follow the officials, and finally Zheng Lian's younger brother Zheng Xiang went, when Zheng Lian was in the capital, he rushed to stop his brother and said, "I am the elder brother, I should go by." The younger brother said, "Brother, you are old, and I should go there." In this way, the two brothers competed to go to jail.
When Ming Taizu found out, he said, "How can a filial person like this follow others in rebellion?" ”
Immediately, the person who was framed was punished and the son of the Zheng family was reused as an official.
<h1>(2) Do not act with evil and small, and do not act with good and small</h1>
In the Chronicle of the Three Kingdoms, Shu Zhi, and the Biography of the Ancestors, it is recorded that:
At the beginning of the disease, but diarrhea in the ear, and then turned to miscellaneous diseases, and could not help themselves. Fifty people are not called dead, and they are more than sixty years old, and they hate what they hate, and they do not hurt themselves again, but they think of brother Qing. Shooting jun arrived, saying that The minister sighed Qing Qing's wisdom, and greatly increased his cultivation, too much as expected, and judged it to be so, I have no worries! Mian Zhi, Mian Zhi! Do not do evil for the sake of being small, and do not do it with the smallness of good. Only the virtuous are virtuous and can be obeyed.
These were the words in Liu Bei's last will to his son Liu Chan before his death. The purpose was to exhort him to pursue moral cultivation and make a difference. Don't do good things because they are small, and you can't do them because bad things are small.
The accumulation of small goodes will become the great good that benefits the world, while the accumulation of small evils will be "enough to chaos the country."
Coincidentally, it is also said in the "Zhou Yi ZhiXia" that "good is not enough to become famous, and evil is not enough to destroy oneself." ”
