Kyodo News Agency, September 29, the British Museum in London will hold an exhibition of Japanese late Edo period ukiyo-e painter Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) from the 30th, and on the 28th before the opening, an internal exhibition for the media will be held.
The manuscript of 103 unfinished prints of Katsushika Hokusai' unfinished works discovered in Paris in 2019 was made public for the first time. The exhibition will run until the end of January next year and will also be made available free of charge on the British Museum website.
Alfred Haft, curator of the museum, said that in addition to works based on Chinese, Indian and natural themes, he also painted myths, histories, and characters in stories, showing that Katsushika Hokusai "has an interest in everything." The works may have been created in the 1820s and 1840s, but "how it came to Europe from Japan remains a mystery."
