Leaders of the first and second largest opposition parties in the Canadian Parliament are infected with the new crown virus

TORONTO, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Erin O'Toole, the leader of Canada's largest opposition party, the Federal Conservative Party, was confirmed to be infected with the new crown virus on the evening of September 18, local time. Leaders of both the largest and second largest opposition parties in the Canadian Parliament were confirmed to be infected on the eve of the imminent resumption of Parliament.

A statement from the Conservatives said O'Toole was in self-isolation and in good shape. His wife and children tested negative.

Quebec Governor Lego, who has had a one-on-one meeting with O'Toole in recent days, said that night that he was already in quarantine. However, Lego met in Ottawa with the governors of Ontario, Alberta and Manitoba earlier on the 18th.

O'Toole and his family were tested for the virus together in Gatineau, across the river from Ottawa, on the 17th. Afterwards he complained that people had been waiting too long for tests.

Born in 1973, O'Toole was elected the new leader of the Conservative Party in late August. If nothing else, he will be a major contender for the post of Prime Minister in Canada's next federal election.

Yves-François Blanche, the leader of the Second Largest Opposition Party in the Canadian Parliament, Quebec Group, was also confirmed to be positive in the new crown test earlier on the 18th. Blanche is now in good condition in isolation at home. His wife was confirmed to be infected with the new crown virus three days ago. A staff member in his office had earlier confirmed the infection and had caused multiple colleagues to self-isolate.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the leader of two major opposition parties in Congress, announced the early adjournment of Parliament on August 18.

The Canadian Parliament will resume on September 23. The Liberal government will then present a new governance plan in the context of COVID-19. The plan will accept a vote of confidence. (End)
