Morphological characteristics Of medium size, finches with a body length of 13 to 17 cm. Compared with other birds of the family Ternaceae , the tail is very long , and the light yellow-brown beak is shorter and rounder. The male breeding feathers are mainly rose red, the base of the beak is dark, the cheeks, the top of the head, and the back of the neck are pink and white; the back has black-brown longitudinal stripes; the wings are black and brown, with two broad white wing spots, and the flight feathers have white margins; the tail is mainly black, and the outer tail feathers are white. Males have relatively pale red non-breeding feathers. The female is predominantly pale brownish yellow with brown longitudinal stripes on the back, a brownish yellow waist, a lighter lower body than the upper body, and wings and tails resembling males. The eyes and feet are dark brown.
Life habits mainly inhabit the valley, near the stream of trees, shrubland, sparse forest, forest edge, migration season and winter will go to the foot of the mountain, under the mountain activities. It is not high and slow, often flying back and forth in small trees and bushes to feed, and will also move to the ground. It feeds mainly on grass seeds, berries, etc. Rare traveling birds. Found in the Taishan Mountains.
