Zhangpu, Fujian Province: Camel cattle help to accurately alleviate poverty

Zhangpu Assisted Animal Husbandry Professional Cooperative is a new type of agricultural business entity supported by the government of Qianting Town, Zhangpu County, founded by local enterprises and participated by poor households. In February this year, the cooperative invested more than 60,000 yuan to purchase an automatic spreader, the cooperative's labor force was liberated, and the overall business model tended to be mature and stable.

"After joining this cooperative, our family's income has been increasing, and our living conditions have improved a lot!" Wang Guoqi is one of the cooperative's 32 poor shareholders and now works for an animal husbandry company. In this new cooperative business model, farmers participating in the cooperation use the remaining time to work in other aspects of labor and increase new income. This not only allows Wang Guoqi to receive a stable salary on weekdays, but also to participate in dividends at the end of the year. At the end of last year, he received a dividend of 12,200 yuan distributed by the cooperative.

The success of the cooperative is inseparable from the "leader" Wang Yanyuan. In 2014, Wang Yanyuan, who had established a local livestock breeding company, went to Myanmar and brought the "camel cattle" back to his hometown for trial breeding. Because camel cattle have a short breeding cycle, fast production and higher economic benefits than slow and small Minnan cattle, Wang Yanyuan, who has tasted sweetness, set up a professional cooperative to help breed livestock breeding in 2017 under the support of the Qianting Town Government, leading 32 poor households to breed camel cattle. According to the agreement, farmers use government discount loans and government-provided industrial support funds as the investment costs of camel cattle breeding, while Wang Yanyuan's company provides breeding sites and equipment facilities, camel calves and feed, and is responsible for the technical guidance of breeding production and free assistance management services. In addition, the Qianting Town Government also set up a risk fund of 100,000 yuan to provide protection for this project.

At present, the cooperative has raised more than 140 camel cattle, the feeding cycle of each cow is about 3 months, and the current market price of each finished cow can reach 12,000 yuan, mainly sold to Guangdong, Xiamen, Zhangzhou and other places. As of March this year, the cooperative has helped 32 poor local poor households to accurately lift themselves out of poverty by breeding camel cattle.
