Butterfly fish walking backwards

Why do butterflyfish swim backwards?

The fish in the ocean are strange, varied and colorful, and one of the fish is called "butterfly fish". This fish is very special, its body is diamond-shaped, the whole body has a number of vertical and horizontal stripes or pattern spots, and its special feature is that it has a very conspicuous black patch on the tail, like an eye. Its "false eye" can make the enemy think that its tail is the head. When chased, the butterflyfish will swim backwards, and when the enemy pounces ferociously on the tail, the butterflyfish wags its tail and quickly escapes.

In addition to the camouflage of the tail, the body of the butterflyfish can also change its body color as the surrounding environment changes. They have a large number of pigment cells on the surface of their bodies, which, under the control of the nervous system, can expand or contract, causing the body to appear different colors. In this way, they can mingle in the coral thickets and escape the enemy's pursuit. Butterflyfish only take a few minutes to change their body color at a time, and some even take a few seconds.

Butterfly fish walking backwards

Butterflyfish have strange feeding movements, and can jump out of the water like flying fish in the ocean. Usually, butterfly fish drift along the water, once there are insects flying, even if it is tens of centimeters away from the water surface, it can also jump out of the water to prey.

Butterflyfish grow beautifully and swim in the water like a butterfly with its wings spread, hence the name. Butterflyfish are very dedicated to love, they are usually paired, always inseparable when playing in the coral thickets. When one butterfly fish is preying, another butterfly fish will swim around it to help it guard, like a Mandarin duck in the sea.
