The reporter learned from the Yangtze River Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences that in November 2020, researchers found a guǎn in the Yichang section of the Yangtze River. This is the second time that the Yangtze River has discovered a helio in June 2017 after the discovery of a helio in the Honghu River section. Commonly known as Diao Zi and Wheat Straw Diao, it was once widely distributed in the Yangtze River and the rivers and lakes south of it. In recent years, hens have become extinct in many historical areas due to overfishing, river and lake barriers and habitat degradation. The findings show that with the advancement of the total ban on fishing in the Yangtze River, the threatened fish populations in the Yangtze River have shown signs of recovery.
