People's Daily Lhasa, July 14 (Li Haixia) According to the spirit of the "Notice of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs on Carrying out the National Census of Agricultural Germplasm Resources", in accordance with the requirements of the "Overall Plan for the National Census of Agricultural Germplasm Resources (2021-2023)" and the "Implementation Plan for the First National Aquaculture Germplasm Resources Census (2021-2023)", the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the Tibet Autonomous Region recently entrusted the commission. The Training Department of the Tibet Autonomous Region Academy of Agricultural and Animal Husbandry Sciences and the Institute of Fisheries Sciences jointly held the training and launching ceremony for the census of aquatic germplasm resources in Tibet.

At the meeting, Li Shaomin, deputy director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the Tibet Autonomous Region, pointed out that Tibet is a strategic highland for national ecological security and must be firmly guarded. The ecological security of water areas is an important part of Tibet's ecological security and must be firmly grasped. It is necessary to carry out census and training on aquatic germplasm resources in Tibet, which is of great significance for the development of Tibet's seed industry and the protection of ecological security in water areas. Gao Xue, secretary of the party leading group of the Tibet Autonomous Region Academy of Agricultural and Animal Husbandry Sciences, also pointed out that as the only professional unit in Tibet engaged in the conservation and utilization of plateau fisheries, the Institute of Fishery Sciences should base itself on its own work, work hard, and work for a long time to play a role in aquatic product conservation and fishery rural revitalization.

As an important part of agricultural germplasm resources, aquaculture germplasm resources are the necessary material basis for the original innovation of aquaculture and the promotion of the high-quality development of modern aquatic seed industry and aquaculture industry. Tibet is the main body of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and is known as the "Water Tower of Asia". The unique geographical environment is home to the world's most distinctive highland fish ecosystem. From 1992 to 1994, the Fisheries Department of the former Ministry of Agriculture conducted a large-scale fish resource survey in Tibet and confirmed that there are 71 species and subspecies of fish in Tibet, belonging to 3 orders and 5 families, mainly composed of schizotyl fish, loach fish and bass fish. After nearly 30 years of development, the regional distribution, resource reserves, living environment, etc. of fish resources in Tibet have changed, and it is urgent to carry out a census of aquatic germplasm resources represented by aquaculture, potential breeding prospects, endangered fish and national second-level protected fish in the whole region, to find out the status of resources, establish a conservation mechanism for endangered fish and national second-level protected fish, and build a new development pattern with the domestic cycle as the main body and the domestic and international dual cycles promoting each other. Protect the rich aquatic resources endowed by nature, independently grasp important core germplasm resources, promote the scientific protection and orderly development and utilization of aquatic germplasm resources in Tibet, and provide material support for the turnaround of the seed industry.
