The rock pigeon is a bird of the genus Pigeon in the family Doves, with a "grunt" call, similar to that of domestic pigeons. The head, neck and upper thorax of the rock pigeon are slate blue-grey, the neck and upper chest are embellished with metallic copper-green and extremely shiny, and the hind edge of the neck and the upper part of the chest are also purple-red, forming a collar.
The rock pigeon is listed on the IUCN's 2012 Red List of Threatened Species ver 3.1 - Low Risk (LC).
