
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that the details of the 93rd Academy Awards in 2021 have been slightly adjusted:
1. Movies that were originally scheduled to be released in theaters, but were originally launched through commercial streaming platforms, pay-per-view platform services, or other forms of playback.
Eligibility for the film can be made available on the secure Academy Member Website within 60 days of distribution or broadcast on streaming, pay-per-view platforms, or on the Academy member website.
2. The film can be released through traditional theatrical distribution, but for a 7-day screening in one of the 6 eligible cities (i.e., Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco/Bay Area, Chicago, Miami, Atlanta).
Screenings are held at least 3 times a day, and one of the screenings is held between 6pm and 10pm daily.
In addition, the car theaters in these cities will now be counted as commercial venues, but the screening requirements will be adjusted from 3 times a day to 1 time per day.
Movies with theatrical releases don't need to go live in the Academy Screening Room within 60 days.
