The famous American swimmer Missy Franklin officially announced his retirement on social networking sites, at the age of 23. Franklin won five Olympic gold medals and 11 world championship gold medals in his career, and won the Lawrence Award.
Franklin has a lot of similarities with the famous Chinese swimmer Ye Shiwen, the two are only one year apart, both became famous at the Shanghai World Championships, and then both created glory at the London Olympics, reaching the peak of their careers, but in the following years their status declined rapidly.
Franklin's backstroke and freestyle were excellent. But then Franklin's competitive state declined, to the 2015 Kazan World Championships, she failed to win gold medals in the backstroke and freestyle of her personal events, only two gold medals in relay, to the Rio Olympics, Franklin's state further declined, single backstroke and freestyle failed to reach the final, she helped the United States win the gold medal in the 4x200m relay, but only participated in the preliminary part, the final day did not enter the list.
Franklin underwent shoulder surgery in 2017. Her name is hardly visible in competitions to this day.
