Recently, Nicolas Damiens and Julien Sens carefully referenced handwritten letters and notes to convert the handwriting of late musicians such as David Bowie, Kurt Coburn, John Lennon, Leonard Cohen and Serge Gansbourg into a variety of fonts that can be downloaded for free. This use of handwritten commemoration is very humble, especially in the case of Köppen, where some nuances in the Köppen font, the lazy "c" and the small "i" are directly derived from his handwritten suicide note.
Lennon's handwriting is neat and clear; Bowie's handwriting is strongly graphic; Cohen's handwriting style is unique; Cobain's handwriting has a distinctive appeal. Colt Cobain founded Nirvana in 1987, drawing inspiration from punk, blues and heavy metal music to create his own musical world. At the time, his style was called grunge. His works are anxiously twisted and poetic, and have profoundly influenced a generation. Here, Nicolas Damiens and Julien Sens, the designers, analyze Cobain's work from a purely visual perspective.
Cobain's writing method was sparse, and sometimes his writing was particularly small and uneven. He scrupulously used capital letters, scribbled indiscriminately, and even replaced words with more straightforward symbols. Cobain's font is very frank and at the same time twisted poetry, which is undoubtedly the same as his musical style. As Cobain himself wrote, there is some sadness but poetry.
