After being nominated for the Golden Melody Award for Best Newcomer after the release of his first album "Girls" in 2014, Sun Shengxi showed his musical talent. Q: "Journey to The West" shows the possibility of you mastering the style of music, gets too many praises and awards, and makes more listeners know you. What do you think of the significance of this album for your musical career?
XiYouji is an album that makes me full of understanding, playing music with everyone in the most natural, relaxed, and self-limiting state, and completing the album in a very short time, such as some songs are recorded synchronously 3take (three times recorded live), or improvised in an hour. In the process, I saw myself that I had never seen before, and I would like to thank Teacher Li Xinyun and Teacher Chen Junhao for letting me try boldly and freely, and learning how to choose and sculpt around the masters, as well as their amazing efficiency. Before this album received praise and awards, it was more important to get a lot of understanding and learning
Q: Who are your 2019 music heroes?
The most listened to in 2019 were Daniel Caeser, Pink Sweatshirt, Lauv, Khalid.
But the one that left the strongest impression was Dua Lipa's single "Don't Start Now." Her Funky's music has some retro elements but it is also very popular, and she is also very bold in image, image, and performance, and I admire her.
Q: Is the title song "Someday or One Day" in "Want to See You" specifically created for the series? Which is harder for you to write songs or freely compose for characters/film and television dramas?
Yes, specially built for the play. The song production was completed half a year before the broadcast of "Want to See You". At first, the crew wanted English songs with a rustic style, but at first I thought that it was something I hadn't tried, and I wasn't sure. But after watching the information and a few pages of lines given by the crew, it was quickly put into the plot. This song describes the mental activity of missing the person you love the most and looking forward to returning to the other person one day. Later, after watching the broadcast, I felt that my song and Chrissy's words were really close to the show, and I felt happy and thanked everyone for liking it so much. Writing songs for film and television dramas sometimes catches the direction more quickly, because the characters and story settings are very clear. I've always loved making music for film and television, and I like the images that come to mind when I write songs. In contrast, freelance creation requires finding themes and inspiration, so it takes effort and time from different aspects.
Q: "Escape" is a song tailored for the heroine, and you are also involved in the lyrics, I want to ask Xixi how to understand the two characters of Chen Yunru and Huang Yuxuan?
I think everyone has two looks of introversion and extroversion, Huang Yuxuan and Chen Yunru are like this concept. I also have my own side of Huang Yuxuan and Chen Yunru. For example, when I get along with my friends like Huang Yuxuan, when I write songs, I am like Chen Yunru, especially when I write these two songs for "Want to See You", the two characters and emotions are very appropriate in my story and emotions, so there is a way to complete the two songs "Want to See You" and "Escape".
Q: The three songs released after "Journey to The West" are all ost, do you want to develop in this regard in the future?
Originally, I wanted to focus on the style of the next album, but after these three songs and film and television drama cooperation, I found that I still like to give voice to film and television works, and I also think that people like to listen, so I will continue to continue later, and I want to try the soundtrack production further.
Q: Recently, I saw Xixi and rolling stone colleagues participate in the live broadcast of online music festivals and bedroom music festivals on different streaming platforms, how does the live broadcast feel, is the talking link difficult for you?
The first live broadcast after the outbreak of the epidemic was particularly impressive, at such a time to be able to use the live broadcast platform to sing to everyone, chat feels very warm, and finally know that I can do something for everyone, so I created more live broadcast opportunities, but also thanks to the current technology so that we can not meet when we can still look at each other's faces and care for each other.
Q: You've always been a prolific singer-songwriter who can write two albums a year. The epidemic has a lot of time to think and learn, has it gained some new inspiration that has never been there before? How many songs were written?
It is true that there is a lot more time to think and plan, and it is in the making. The style of this album is very different from the previous one. It should be revealed that the demo is already more than the amount of an album, haha.
Q: I heard that a new album will be released at the end of 2020, can you reveal the general appearance of the new album as we can?
If you pay attention to my Weibo and Douyin, you should be able to feel some of my new attempts, there will be some dynamic songs, and one or two specific styles will run through the entire album.
Q: You've started experimenting with being a producer, will the producer of the next album be yourself?
I'm involved and controlling the whole album myself, but there are still great producers working with me on it, so please look forward to it.
