30 years after the film "Needle", starring the lead singer of the rock band, "he" appeared on the street again.

In 1987, Rasht Nukhmanov, a directing student at the Russian Film Academy, was invited to make a documentary about drug abuse called Needle, starring Victor Tri. The film impressed millions of viewers and won awards at several film festivals.

Lebayev Street, Almaty, is the film's final scene, and at the end of the film, the protagonist Molo (played by Victor Cui) hands a cigarette to his future killer. This scene also became the basis for the creation of this sculptural image by the St. Petersburg sculptor Matwy Magushkin.

On June 21, 1962, Viktor Choi was born in Kiorda, Republic of Kazakhstan, the son of Choi Dong-lie, a Korean-born engineer teacher, and to the mother of a Ukrainian-born physical education teacher, Valenzina Basilevna. After his death, there was a debate between Kazakhstan and Russia over his nationality. The final controversy ended with the nationality as Russian, but the indication of the place of birth as Kazakhstan. However, Kazakhs still proudly consider Victor Choi to be a Kazakh and list him as one of the 13 great men who represent Kazakhstan.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, the mayor of Almaty said: "This is a landmark place in our city. The poems written by Cui are related to today. His philosophy of human life is to be honest and notarized in life, always to fight to the end, to move forward. His songs contain a common cultural code that resonates with his music regardless of status, status, or place of residence. His songs are international. ”

Kazakh scientist Jimur Belkarev said that our generation grew up listening to Cui's music, and his songs are everywhere, and in my opinion, the people who listen to his songs are old and young. The idea of building a sculpture by Victor Choi has a long history. Finally, with the support of the Mayor and sponsors of Almaty, it was finally achieved. In addition to restoring the style of the time, the sculpture is surrounded by bench street lamps and spruce trees, which is full of retro atmosphere from the late 80s.

Kazakh Forbes publisher Arman General Batasov said it was an era that everyone wanted to change, so his songs were fascinating and unique, unlike other Soviet songs, full of party winds. It is amazing that a man who is only 25 years old can have such a wise, mature, and strong line of mind.

Yuri Casparliang, one of kino's creators, who attended the sculpture's unveiling ceremony, said he still can't accept the fact that his friend left early.

Many well-known businessmen and entrepreneurs in Kazakhstan and Russia are fans of Victor Choi, who have publishers, chairman of candy companies, bank presidents and many more.

Although in the movie "Needle", the protagonist is not dead, he stands up and moves on. But in reality, Victor Cui suffered a car accident, the rescue was ineffective, and he left the world at the age of 28. This year, Cui should be 56 years old, and his song seems to herald an early departure.

On the ground in front of the sculpture there is a notice board with the lines from the movie engraved on it: "The stars in the sky call me", "Born to die, waiting for love".

The death of Victor Cui has left many fans saddened. Among the many admirers of rock singers, there is a popular saying: "Choi is not dead." He just went out and smoked a cigarette. ”

After Victor Tri's death, artists in St. Petersburg raised funds to make memorials on his cemetery, and streets named after him appeared throughout the Soviet Union. In particular, at 2 Old Arbat Street, Moscow's art street, his memorial wall (aka the "Wall of Weeping") appears, which is filled with fans' thoughts about him.

A reporter once asked him what the motivation of the creation was, and he said that I did not sing to hate the years, and when I played the piano, the lyrics and tunes followed.

Victor Choi's songs were popular with the young people of that era, and in addition to the concise and powerful style, the main reason was that the content of the lyrics reflected the voices of the young people at that time. To this day, his spirit still influences a group of young people who love rock and roll.
