European Golden Boot winner Lewandowski: I don't have to prove myself in another league

The Polish striker has close ties to leaving the Allianz Arena this summer, but he still fully supports the German title

Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski announced after winning the 2020-21 European Golden Boot that "I don't need to prove myself in another league".

Widely regarded as one of the finest strikers of his generation, Lewandowski initially made his mark at Borussia Dortmund before joining Bayern in 2014.

The Poland international took his game to the next level at the Allianz Arena, with the 2020-21 match proving to be his best performance in terms of his overall contribution in the final third.

Lewandowski broke records for a year

Despite missing a full month with injury, Levan scored 41 goals in 29 Bundesliga games with Bayern last season.

The 33-year-old surpassed The Record for the most goals scored in a single German top league in a single game set by Gaude Müller in the process and won the European Golden Boot for the first time in his career – 11 goals ahead of the former Barcelona superstar. Lionel Messi.

Lewandowski finally won the award on Tuesday and took the opportunity to reaffirm his commitment to Bayern after a summer of transfer hype.

The striker was closely linked to a move to the Premier League at some stage and Chelsea are considered his most likely destination as some believe he will benefit from his comfort zone in the Bundesliga.

"I don't have to prove myself in another league," Lewandowski said. "I can compete in the Champions League with the best players in other leagues.

"I'm 100% focused on Bayern Munich and I don't think about anything but my team.

Lewandowski responded to Haaland's rumors

Bayern may reportedly consider bringing in Dortmund's Errin Haaland as Lewandowski's long-term successor, but he insists he has plenty of years to play at the highest level.

"I'm still here — and I'll be here for a long time!" Lewandowski said. "Age, those are just numbers. I feel really good, I have the best data. I know with my body, I can stay at the top level for years to come. I'm like a good bottle of wine, and I hope it gets better. ”

On Friday, Lewandowski will face Firth in Bayern's next Bundesliga match.
