author:Wang Jienan

Unexpectedly, I don't have a year-end summary today.

So I flipped back to January 2019 to see what I wrote.

Movie \ Adelmans

On January 1, 2019, I wrote that my desire to express myself disappeared, and indeed, I have not found it now.

On January 1, 2019, I wrote that I was deeply moved by su tong's words:

"Everyone has to face two eras, one era is the big era, I said that the big era is outside the window, the other era is the small era, the small era inside your window.

In other words, a person adapting to an era is actually a connection between the world inside your window and the world outside your window.

How quiet you have to design inside the window, but you can't not open the window, so the relationship is quite delicate. ”

Still touched at the moment.

On January 1, 2019, I wrote that I had been obsessed with showing my own small window, but ignored that the window had changed the world.

Throughout 2019, I walked roughly out of the window of the world and looked at a lot of people who were high or low, successful or unsuccessful.

Read a lot of stories of technology companies falling at the top of the tide, see a lot of bloody footprints of capital, read the entrepreneurial experience of CEOs and executives, see people deceived by Down's scams, and see this era that is still crazy but has never changed.

Outside the window, there are some things that I think are right and wrong, and there are things that I think are illusory and are actually the most real.

The world outside the window was simpler than I thought, but more crazy than I thought.

It turned out that the world outside the window was like this, so I could go back to the window again.

I remember when I was 20 years old, an older sister said to me, "25 years old is a watershed in life, if a person is still ordinary at that time, then this life may be like this." 」 ”

So in the five years since I was 20 years old, I have been working hard and working hard, like treating a big test of life, trying to deliver a good result.

The 25-year-old answer sheet is no longer the question I originally imagined, but surprisingly, I am very satisfied with my answer.

These experiences in five years have made me feel free, and I have never felt so free.

This month's book list:

1 | "Harvard Chinese Philosophy Class"

Books and movies to watch this month | 2019.12

When I got to listen to the "Fifty Lectures on the Outline of Western History", it was said that Chinese the current mode of thinking is difficult to define whether it is the East or the West.

I am deeply touched by this, and many times I look at the history of Chinese philosophy, history, and sociology written by Chinese scholars, but those who read Western scholars can feel the true meaning of this very much.

Many times, the things or traits we take for granted are not mentioned and contrasted, and it is difficult for us to realize that we are deeply influenced by them, and perhaps this is cultural inertia.

Many of the sentences in this book will have a bright feeling after the eyes.

For example, "divinity", divinity is reflected in ancient Greek mythology, and Western philosophy is also called calling on the people to pursue divinity, so the author compares the "qi" in Chinese philosophy to "divinity".

"Divinity depends on people's empathy with the world to be activated, not on the imposition of individual will alone. Divinity means seeing things clearly and responding perfectly, resonating with everything around you.

This concept of vitality can inspire us to move from a world of discrete things and infinite contradictions to a more harmonious world. The more harmonious our own "qi" is, the more divine it becomes, even in this chaotic and scattered earthly world. ”

Seeing this, I understood the true meaning of "nourishing qi" in Chinese philosophy, observing the world, responding, resonating, and finding my own "Tao" in a discrete and contradictory world.

The author mentions that music and poetry can cultivate "qi" because people feel their shared life experiences with those around them and connect and resonate, thus gaining an epiphany and insight into the meaning of life.

Art, or anything else that inspires human awe, can improve qi because they train our perception and make us respond more deeply to the world around us.

So in my rough summary, when a person has a broad capacity for empathy and is aware of the laws of the world, the more self-consistent, more harmonious, and more "divine" his values are in harmony with the "truth" of the world.

There is also a very enlightening point in the book, which is about the "true self".

The American psychologist and philosopher William James once wrote: "As many people know a certain person, there are as many social selves as this person." This actually coincides with Chinese Confucian philosophy.

For a long time, the "true self" has puzzled me, because it is difficult for me to understand what the true self is or what it needs, when in fact, this deep, true self does not exist at all.

Every role or social self in life has its meaning, every moment is your true self, you don't have to live with a mask, just be as free and happy as possible.

2 | "The Theory of Leisure Class"

Books and movies to watch this month | 2019.12

One of the leading works of sociology, I have a new understanding of celebrities and rich people.

Only to find out that the protagonist in Woody Allen's movie is not simply a rich man, but an idle class in this society.

The classic ideas in the book are not limited to:

1. Labor is proof of poverty. The main feature of the leisure class is the apparent absence from all practical work.

2, the leisure class occupies works of art or jewelry, not in the real sense of beauty, but in the increase of honor, to get rid of the shabby and contempt.

3. There are many "generational leisure classes" in society, such as the sponsored scholars who do research instead of the leisure class, such as the sponsored artists who are adding honor to the leisure class, etc., which is the same as in the Middle Ages.

4. There are many undertakings that are ostensibly carried out for the selfless public good, but they have ulterior motives at the time of their founding and in progress, and the fundamental purpose is to enhance the honor of the initiators. So for women of the leisure class, doing charity is one of their necessary tasks.

This book is actually worth reading once a year, and every time you look at it, it makes people feel that there is nothing new under the sun, and if you live in a Western country, this feeling will be even stronger.

3 | Paris Review: An Interview with a Writer (1)

Books and movies to watch this month | 2019.12

Very good, well deserved Douban score of 9.

Writer Interview is a lengthy interview with a writer from the famous American literary magazine Paris Review. Interviews include Hemingway, Henry Miller, Márquez, Milan Kundera, Güntergrass, Haruki Murakami, Orhan Pamuk, and Stephen King.

What struck me even more about the book was the level of the interviewer, the fact that it was not easy to talk to the smartest and most insightful mind in the world, and it was true that an interview with the Paris Review often took months or even years from preparation to actual conduct.

"My first thought about art as a child was that the artist brought something new to the world, and at the same time he didn't destroy anything else.

This seems to be a refutation of the law of conservation of matter. This is still the center of magic, the core of happiness, for me. ”

"I don't believe in any golden age, you know. I mean, for the few, there is indeed the so-called Golden Age, the Golden Age of the Elite, and for the majority life is always unfortunate, superstitious and ignorant, trampled, suppressed by churches and governments.

I am still a big believer in Spengler, and I have never been more thorough than he could have said. He pitted culture and civilization against each other. Civilization is the culture of arteriosclerosis. ”

There is a pleasure in watching these great writers speak, and reading a chapter every day before starting work has a feeling of spiritual food giving the mind a full stomach.

4 | "French Seduction"

Books and movies to watch this month | 2019.12

Temptation is the French philosophy of life, even an unofficial ideology.

The French pour out a deep love for sensual pleasure, delicacy, mystery and playful qualities in everything they do (French food, desserts, clothing, architecture, even women).

If a city is a spiritual materialization and New York is "money first," then Paris is definitely "hedonistic."

So it's no wonder that all the heroines of novels and movies always yearn for Paris, and women are indeed natural hedonists compared to men.

5 | "Think Like an Artist"

Books and movies to watch this month | 2019.12

It's funny, like on the cover, to look at the artist with a commercial, creative eye.

For example, the "differentiation" that makes the enterprise successful in the business field will also make the artist successful.

For example, in the business world, entertainment circles, and fashion circles, artists are also using the means of building personal prestige and personal brands.

For artists, self-promotion is equally important.

This Month's Shadow List:

1 | "Dream Like a Dream"

Books and movies to watch this month | 2019.12

The longest play I've seen in my life, eight hours. But when you go deep into it, the time passes quickly, eight hours pass in the blink of an eye, and after watching it, people are more confident, and even want to challenge the epic "Ring of the Nibelungen" for more than ten hours.

Books and movies to watch this month | 2019.12

In "Like a Dream", Xu Qing played Gu Xianglan, and when she came out to say the first line, she could almost hear the sound of the whole audience inhaling cool air. It's so charming, it's overwhelmingly feminine

I used to like to say, "Dreams are the greatest reality", this experience comes from Tang Xianzu's "Peony Pavilion", the dream world of Du Liniang's life, which is actually a world that the author believes is more real and more worthy of cherishing than the real world.

Parfit explains in Reason and Man: "The essence of man is the continuous relationship (connection) of a series of psychological facts (including emotions, emotions, memories, and thoughts). ”

What constitutes us is not materiality, education, or status, but emotions, emotions, memories, and thoughts.

Life is a dream, freedom is good, happiness is good.

2 |《29+1》

Books and movies to watch this month | 2019.12

A film about a girl's "midlife crisis."

But reality is always more dramatic than art.

Zhou Xiuna lost her father at the age of 29 in the play, and played the female N number N on TVB at the age of 30 outside the play; Zheng Xinyi suffered from cancer at the age of 29 in the play, and lost her mother Shen Dianxia at the age of 20 outside the play.

After going through all the sad passes, in fact, it is still the simplest truth, understanding the preciousness of freedom and companionship, and no longer afraid of loss.

3 | "Picking Gold"

The movie that was scolded very badly by Douban and Zhihu even rose to "insulting Hua", but I gave five stars in Douban.

Movies want to tell a good story, and it's really a good story.

The female mother who raised her daughter alone finally looked back at the male protagonist's mother Yang Ziqiong, and people who had not experienced it would not understand.

The wedding of the century inside was quite beautiful, and I cried for nearly 10 minutes, if nothing else, simply because it was so beautiful.

4 | Primal Planet

Books and movies to watch this month | 2019.12

Czech New Wave cartoons, and their magic, and their art.

The plot is like a fusion of "Avatar" and "Attack on Titan", the style of painting is avant-garde and magical, and perhaps "Rubik's Cube Mansion", which has left many people with childhood shadows, has been influenced to some extent by the Czech New Wave.

If you have time to look for more Czech New Wave animations, it feels like a strange aesthetic that is far from our current era and medium, born in another dimension.

6 | The Wolf of Wall Street

Books and movies to watch this month | 2019.12

Watching Cat and Mouse, The Aviator, The Great Gatsby, The Wolf of Wall Street, there's an idea that's not necessarily right.

In order to deepen the role, he has to read books, learn, deeply understand the rules and secrets of the industry, learn to think and allocate resources like business elites and rich people, and talk with smart people, and over time he really becomes a real life business elite, a rich man and a smart person.

Is this a disguised Matthew effect?

7 | The Twelve Citizens

Books and movies to watch this month | 2019.12

The Chinese version of "Twelve Angry Men" is well localized, and for me who couldn't watch "Twelve Angry Men" before, this movie deeply shocked me.

We still have a long way to go before the rule of law.

8 | "Chocolate"

Like "E-Love Letters" or "Sleepless in Seattle", it is suitable for a winter weekend afternoon, wrapped in a quilt and holding milk tea, and reading it hot.

This damn, wonderful, human love.

9 | "Hiding the Sky and Crossing the Sea: Beauty Plan"

Books and movies to watch this month | 2019.12

The plot is mediocre, but the famous paintings, beauties, costumes and Vanity Fair in the movie are all worth seeing.

Watching Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway and Rihanna steal jewelry in MOMA in beautiful dresses, even if it's pPT, I recognize it.

10 | "Non-Powerful Aphrodisiac\ Invincible Beauty God"

Books and movies to watch this month | 2019.12

Woody Allen is my necessary spiritual food, and praising Woody Allen is my monthly routine.

The film's inner drama takes a clever form, with a group of people singing poetry to the protagonist.

Never seen it before, only Woody Allen dared to shoot like this.
