The sand-spined mackerel is a species of spiny mackerel in the family Mackerel in the family Rayfinfish. Distributed in tropical and subtropical oceans, it is an oceanic fish that moves in small groups in surface waters and is carnivorous, feeding on fish and cephalopods.

The salmon can reach lengths of up to 250 cm and weigh up to 80 kg. The body is covered with small scales, the back is rainbow blue-green, and the side is silver with 24-30 dark blue longitudinal bands that extend under the side line. The mouth is large, strong, triangular, flattened and elongated with finely jagged teeth, and the snout is about as long as the head.
