US media: The Cavaliers and Colin Sexton failed to agree on a contract extension

According to U.S. media reports, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Colin Sexton failed to agree on a contract extension. This year marks the final year of Sexton's rookie contract and will be a restricted free agent after the 2021-22 season. Sources say the Cavaliers and Colin Sexton failed to reach a contract extension agreement by Monday's deadline. Sexton will become a restricted free agent at the end of the season. AmNotEvan reported the same situation. Both Sexton and the Cavaliers are reportedly interested in contract extensions, but it appears that the two sides cannot agree on price. Sexton has arguably been the Cavaliers' best player in the past few seasons, and the eighth-pick player in the 2018 NBA Draft went one step further in the 2020-21 season as the team's main scorer. Sexton averaged a career-high 24.3 points per game, shooting 47.5 percent (also a career-high) and 37.1 percent from outside the three-point line.

Cleveland hopes Sexton can help the team make it to the playoffs in 2021-22. If he does, it will be hard for the Cavaliers to have a reason to renew his contract for future seasons.
