Traditional outdoor music festivals mostly introduce rock or folk songs, and use stars and bands who take turns to cheer up the audience. This year's National Day, Shanghai Oriental Art Center stepped out of the theater and also planned an outdoor music festival, but took a different approach, abandoning the mainstream rock and folk style, and creating the first outdoor chinese music festival in Shanghai.

During the National Day, the "Chao Play Chinese Style Music Festival" jointly sponsored by Shanghai Oriental Art Center and Shanghai Century Park landed in Century Park, bringing 10 "small and beautiful" Chinese style concerts for 5 consecutive days.

The music festival is all public welfare, free of charge to the public to make reservations, and the reservation quota was soon sold out. After the start of the music festival, Century Park welcomed a large number of admiring audiences and tourists, and finally, under the strict control of all parties, it ended with a full venue and an audience of 8,000 people.

On the first day of the festival, the "What is the Qin" concert of the Zide Qin Society took the lead, and many audiences who did not make reservations to watch the performance lined up early. Since the Qin Society debuted in the Tang Dynasty restoration costume style, it began to make up at 9 o'clock in the morning, "We hope to attract more different audience groups, and the Guofeng Music Festival is a good attempt." ”

Maritime Gagaku has continuously brought two major theme performances of "National Style" and "Jazz Pop", although it is a traditional folk music ensemble, it is a fiery film and television IP theme music that young people like and are familiar with.

"Wu Yun's brother" Gao Bowen led the Shanghai jury to stage the "Stars Jiangnan Wind", "Slow Sound", "Flower Good Full Moon" and other familiar tunes sounded in the soft and sticky comments, and the actors appeared in magnificent cheongsam and elegant long shirts, evoking the Jiangnan style in the hearts of the audience. "Pingtan is not just a traditional tune that goes over and over again, not just what Grandpa likes, but it can also become nice, fashionable, and popular with young people." Gao Bowen said.

"Prince of Kunqu" Zhang Jun joined hands with the Shanze Quartet to combine Chinese and Western styles, giving Kunqu a new look. The cross-border linkage between Zhang Jun and the bassist is even more detonated at the scene, "Kunqu opera can rock up, too tide!" The audience said excitedly. In my 35-year career, I have experienced the past when Kunqu opera was not watched and fell to the bottom. With the strength of Chinese culture, we have more and more opportunities to share with young friends the national tide represented by Kunqu Opera. Zhang Jun sighed.

The festival also welcomed a fairly young Chinese music group, the Wind Forest Volcano Fusion Orchestra. The four young boys mixed electronic music with ethnic instruments such as Oh Na, Sheng, and Ruan, so that old songs such as "Great China", "Ghost of Qiannu" and "Kikujiro's Summer" were newly composed and played with a new look.

The Shewei National Orchestra came out in a crowd, bringing "shakuhachi, hand discs and songs", a pipe of holeless pipes, a drum without treble, a vocal with no fixed tune, and the three people returned to the purest perception of sound with the simplest instruments.

As a special guest, Zhang Zining, who is good at interpreting ancient style songs, also came to the scene of the music festival and sang a number of Chinese style songs to interact with the audience at close range.

Step out of your comfort zone and try new ways to play

Although he has 16 years of professional performance experience, for the first time to run a large-scale music festival outdoors, Dongyi still encountered many challenges.

"Compared with traditional classical concerts, outdoor music festival audiences tend to be more enthusiastic, and how to make outdoor sound and visual effects no less than the concert hall and maximize the advantages of outdoor music is the primary problem we face." In order to make the audience feel comfortable and feel it, Dongyi began to consider sound and visual effects in the early stage of planning.

Not only the "small and beautiful" concert, the music festival also planned the national style parade, creative market and other supporting content, so that the audience lingered in it, happy and unforgettable.

Nowadays, Hanfu audiences can often be seen in shanghai theaters, since it is a national wind music festival, why not let Hanfu lovers wear Hanfu to participate? When planning the music festival, the proposal of a staff member who is also a Hanfu enthusiast was positively responded to by the team.

Once the summoning order of the "National Style Parade" was released on the Internet, it quickly received a response, and it was full in just a few days, not only mother and daughter, but also Hanfu enthusiasts from other places who came to visit at their own expense.

At the parade site, Hechuan, Qingyin, Jiujing Feast, Zhuang Han and other well-known national style KOLs attracted hundreds of Hanfu enthusiasts to accompany them, or umbrellas, or lanterns, or fans, bringing an eye-catching "crossing" journey.

In recent years, Dongyi is constantly jumping out of the "comfort zone", constantly innovating, trying new ways to play, and the program planning has shown a trend of youth and diversification.

Since 2018, Dongyi has begun to transform from a performance platform to a production platform, and has successively launched a number of stage works, including the stage play "Golden Family Garden" and the drama "Sunrise". On the occasion of the centenary of the founding of the Party, Dongyi launched a star version of the drama "The Right Way in the World is Vicissitudes", and launched a second national tour during the National Day.

As the first attempt of Dongyi in the outdoors, the "Chao Play National Style Music Festival" allows more people to appreciate the charm of the national tide culture, and once again broadens the boundaries of the theater's attempt.
