Beijing News On June 25, the movie "Waiting for the Barbarians" starring Mark Relance, Johnny Depp and Robert Pattinson released an official trailer. The film was shortlisted for the main competition unit of the 76th Venice Film Festival, was originally planned to be released in theaters, and will now be launched on the on-demand platform on August 7.

Waiting for the Barbarian is directed by Siro Guerre ("The Snake's Embrace") and is based on the novel by Nobel Prize winner J. Berger. M. Kuche's novel of the same name, written by Coetzee himself, is based on racial discrimination and abuse of power. Mark Reirance plays a sheriff in an unnamed Empire, Robert Pattinson plays an Imperial officer who is sent to replace the sheriff after he is accused of treason, and Johnny Depp plays the brutal Colonel Joel.
