Burhinus oedicnemus is a medium-sized wader of the genus Hydra in the family Lithopodidae , with a body length of 40–45 cm. The trout has a white forehead , grey-brown or sand-brown crown , back , and shoulders , and has a dark brown longitudinal stripe. The eyes are white first, sometimes from the base of the mouth to the eye there is a black-brown line located before the eye, the sides of the head are black, the eyes are extraordinarily large and yellow, and there is a narrow black circle outside it, the eyebrow lines are wide and prominent, white, the front end is bifurcated, along the eye up and down to surround the eye, and some of the front end is connected with the frontal white, this white eyebrow divides the black side of the head into two channels above and below the eye. The cheeks and throat are white, and the osprey stripes are black, like a black figure-eight hair located at the corner of the mouth. The feathers are black, with 3 primary feathers on the outside with a wide white transverse band, followed by 3 primary feathers with all black, the inner primary feathers with a wide black band, and the secondary feathers are black with a white base. The small coverts on the wings are greyish brown, black-brown and white, forming two bands of black and white on the wings, the middle and large coverts are gray, and the underwings are white, but the tip of the flight feathers is black. The base of the primary flight feathers straddles a black belt. The underparts are white , with a yellowish-gray skin and black-brown stripes on the fore neck and thorax. The stone plover iris is yellow, the eyes are very large, the mouth is black, the base is yellow, and the feet are yellow or greenish-gray.

Stone plovers are often active alone or in small groups. The plover is walking and nocturnal, and is mainly active at night, early morning and dusk, and occasionally during the day. Alert and timid, when there is a sound, the first to hide, when the person is approaching, walk away or fly away, fly fast and powerful, when lying on the ground flattened. It feeds mainly on crustaceans such as crabs, shrimps and snails, molluscs, insects, small reptiles and amphibians, and sometimes bird eggs.
The breeding period of the stone plover is from January to August. One female and one male. Nests are found along the banks of sandy rivers or on sandy areas by the river and on sand-and-rocky grounds. The nest is actually a pit in the bare sand and gravel ground, and it is not really a nest. 2 eggs are laid per clutch,
