The 26th king of the Joseon Dynasty, Gojong Lee Hee. The kings of Joseon were vassals of the Chinese emperor during the Ming and Qing dynasties, and their status was similar to that of the Chinese county kings, and they could only be called "Your Highness" or "Great King". Lee Hee was originally a distant royal family, supposedly unrelated to the throne, but because the previous generation of Korean kings had no heirs, he eventually ascended the throne by mistake. Although he was the king of Joseon, he was a real puppet, and all his life he was at the mercy of his father Dae-yong Jun, his wife Concubine Min, and the Japanese.

At the end of the Qing Dynasty, the great court of Korea, Li Yunying. Daewonjun is a title in ancient Korea, and after a son enters the throne, he will name his biological father "Daewonjun". In 1863, after the death of Choljong of Joseon, Lee Hee, son of Lee Hyun-ying, was elected to the palace to succeed to the throne as Emperor Gojong. Since Gojong (12 years old) was too young to govern, the affairs of The Joseon Dynasty were praised by the Great Court. After competing with Concubine Min for power, he was imprisoned by the Qing army in Baoding Province and released three years later. In 1894, he came to power again with Japanese power, but was ousted from power due to his refusal to fully cooperate with Japan, and eventually died alone.

At the end of the Qing Dynasty, Seoul, Korea (present-day Seoul) ying'en Gate. Ying'en Gate, which means "greeting the emperor's grace", was the place where the Korean king greeted the envoys of the Ming and Qing dynasties. During the Joseon Dynasty, when emissaries from the Central Plains came to the dynasty, the king of Joseon had to personally go to the outskirts of Ying'enmen to greet him. After the Sino-Japanese War, Japan took control of Korea, and soon Korea severed its affiliation with the Qing Dynasty. In February 1895, North Korea demolished the Gate of Yeong-eun, and the plaque of the current Gate of Yeong-eun is preserved in the National Museum of The Ancient Palace of Korea.
