The horror of war lies in the fact that those involved can no longer get a peaceful night's sleep.

At the end of the Shanghai International Film Festival, "Deer Hunter" 4K, a 1978 film, was the only film that gave me the impulse to write a film review. The film was directed by Michael. Simino wrote and directed, winning two Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director.

Actor, Christopher. Walken plays Nick, a schizophrenic man devastated by war. For his outstanding performance, Walken won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

"Deer Hunter" tells the story of young workers in the Vietnam War, Pennsylvania, the film lasts for 3 hours, the following I will be divided into three parts, from the theme of the movie, about the Vietnam War, from the perspective of human nature, the trauma of the war on enlisted soldiers.

The extreme of "Deer Hunter" makes people have to reflect on the trauma of war to mankind 01 Before the war, the extreme of joy: the last carnival in the town, behind the carnival is to overcome, suppress the fear of war and the reluctance to give up home 02 In the war, the extreme of pain: Russian roulette, I am destined by my involuntary, the haze of death, the smell of blood, the war began to erode their minds after the war 03 After the war, the extreme of trauma: Mike triumphant homecoming, post-war psychological syndrome PTSD did not spare anyone

01 Pre-war, the ultimate in joy: the last carnival in the town, behind which is overcoming, suppressing the fear of war and the reluctance to give up home

The first part, laid out with a lot of revelry, Steven's wedding, the lively dance party. Everyone seemed to be enjoying the last revelry, because there were three young people in this Penn town, Mike, Nick, and Steven, who were going to serve the country and participate in the Vietnam War.

1. Stephen's wedding dance, Mike's drunkenness, behind which is the reluctance to give up home and the fear of war

Young workers danced, drank, and were in high spirits at Stephen's wedding. Until the bride and groom were sent away, Mike suddenly ran like a drunkard, taking off his bound clothes as he ran, and ran naked to lie down on the open space of the basketball court, and there was a desperate decision at that moment. Nick chased after Mike and told each other that they were going home alive.

They vaguely know in their hearts that war will take them to a different journey in life, and they cannot show their reluctance to home and fear of war, but can only run for a while to vent this repressed emotion.

2. The bar carnival of deer hunting, the silence under the sound of the piano, this may be a dead farewell.

At the beginning of the film, it is mentioned that everyone is going to go deer hunting together, and there is a dialogue scene between Mike and Nick, who says that he will hunt deer and go to Vietnam for a while, which seems to be very fluttering, but in fact, he just likes the trees. Mike said that of all the people who hunted, the only person he was really willing to go hunting with was Nick. Without Nick he would rather go hunting alone.

The friendship between the two can be seen in general, after the success of the deer hunting, everyone came to the bar to party, under the sound of the bar owner's piano, everyone suddenly quieted down, the camera swept through everyone's faces, this silence, everyone knows that this may be a dead farewell, a lingering sadness in the bar, with the sound of the piano, slowly fermented.

02 battle, the extreme of pain: Russian roulette, I am destined by my involuntary, the haze of death, the smell of blood, the war begins to erode their minds

The second part, on the battlefield, is covered in blood, and Mike, Nick, and Steven are captured by the Vietnamese and imprisoned in a water prison as hostages.

1. Reasons for mental erosion: Water prison to save itself, gambling on Russian roulette

The Leader of the Vietnamese Army played roulette with the hostage's name, put 1 bullet in a pistol, loaded it, and took turns shooting at his own head to see which person's head exploded first. Mike negotiates with Nick to put three bullets on a gun and gamble his life, and they succeed.

This scene is really a gamble of fate, revolver, 6 bullet nests, put in 3 bullets, Mike bet that the first two shots in a row are empty guns, that is, a bet on life, either die or escape alive.

Although Mike said he didn't want to save Steven, he fished him out of the water prison at the last moment. After experiencing this bloody roulette battle, although the three brothers escaped, the blurred scene of blood and flesh in the war was a blow to everyone.

2. Manifestations of mental erosion: The three brothers are scattered in the war, and the gears of fate change Nick

During his escape from the river, Nick is left by a U.S. helicopter, and Mike falls into the river with Steven, carrying Steven all the way on his back until he is handed over to the army driving by.

Nick comes out of the hospital, and the bloodshed of the war makes Nick numb and unwilling to return to the army, and he is displaced to constantly search for Mike, mistakenly entering an underground gambling den where roulette is played. Nick saw this scene of roulette, which suddenly aroused his post-war trauma, and he stormed off on the spot, taking a gun and firing a shot at his own head, which was a symptom of traumatic reexperience. Smoke billows outside, and Nick gets into the car of the underground gambling den boss and misses his encounter with Mike.

The haze of death, the smell of blood, began to erode Nick's mind. He could not come out of the bloodshed of the war, could not return to the war again, he became a deserter.

03, the ultimate trauma: Mike triumphantly returned home, post-war psychological syndrome PTSD did not spare anyone

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental disorder that delays and persists after an individual experiences, witnesses, or encounters one or more actual deaths involving themselves or others, or is threatened with death, or is seriously injured, or whose physical integrity is threatened.

In the third part, Mike triumphantly returns to the town, but he is reluctant to accept everyone's welcome party, and there is nothing to celebrate. Linda (who turns out to be Nick's girlfriend) thinks Nick is dead and goes to check Nick's whereabouts, only to be told that there is no news and that he has disappeared and run away. She expresses her affection for Mike, but Mac refuses.

1. A phone call between Steven and Mike, "How have you been lately?" ”“Great." The reality is that it's not good at all.

Mike learns that Steven is back, is going to see him, and asks Steven's wife for a phone call. He ran to the phone booth to dial the phone, but he put it down again, and he didn't have the courage to dial the phone.

Finally, Mike and Linda warmed up to each other, and after sleeping, he decided to go on the phone.

Steven was in a retirement nursing home, in a wheelchair, with one hand scrapped and the other hand picking up Mike's phone. Mike asked him how he had been lately? He said Great.Great. The two men chatted about the latest situation, both said they were fine, but the reality was not good at all, and finally Steven couldn't hold on and choked up.

This ordinary greeting, placed on the soldiers who survived the war, how calmly they said that I was fine. Having said that, well, it's also false, because they haven't repaired it at all, psychologically, physically.

Mike visits Steven at the hospital, and Steven says that someone has been sending him money from Saigon. Mike knew that Nick was not dead, and that Saigon was about to fall and that the Americans were about to retreat. Mike decides to venture to Saigon again to take Nick home.

2. Nick's death pushes the whole film to a climax, he rejects all information from the outside world, and the walking dead are alive.

There are three core groups of symptoms of PTSD, namely traumatic re-experience symptoms, avoidance and numbness symptoms, and increased alertness symptoms.

Mike sees Nick's sluggish eyes at the underground casino and grabs him by the collar and asks if you recognize me? I'm Mike. Nick was unaware that post-war psychiatric syndrome PTSD made him avoid reality, constantly repeating roulette, the act of life-and-death struggle, the traumatic re-experience symptoms of PTSD.

In order to wake up Nick, Mike wants to gamble with Nick again, and the last time the two fought for their lives and won the way to live. And the last time the two of them played the same frame of roulette, Mike kept waking up Nick's memories, the trees Nick liked, the mountains, the green, and finally Nick's eyes were red and remembered the conversation they had when they hunted deer together. "One shot kills" pun, Nick wakes up and dies.

The heartache was felt because of Nick's death and because of the cruelty of the war.

The narrative ability of the whole film is strong, and the narrative threads are closely linked. After returning from the war, Mack avoided attending the welcome banquet, choosing the best time to hunt deer again with an empty gun, and the sadness of not being able to leave his soul after the funeral... Such fragments can be a moment in the history of film that will never be out of date. This Shanghai Film Festival, the one with the greatest contrast between the front and back, ended with a difficult collapse in the theater seat, and the aftertaste was long.

End:

The horror of war lies in the fact that those involved can no longer get a peaceful night's sleep. Can we take history as a mirror and stop waging wars, and look at the slaughter of the city in "Three Thousand Years of Jerusalem" and know that this is a luxury.

We are the cogs in the torrent of history, and we cannot determine the fate of this world, this country, but if everyone can convey the will of peace to each other, and the world, this country is also composed of every cog, then perhaps we can make the world as we wish with goodwill.
