Harris was talking about the U.S. government's reconstruction plan and its impact on climate change when a man in the audience abruptly interrupted her.
The man shouted at her, "Eight families in Queens have drowned. If we had the right infrastructure, this could have been avoided. The New York Post said the man was referring to 13 people who died last month in the floods caused by Hurricane Ida, 11 of whom drowned in basements in Queens, New York. City officials blamed the tragedy on the aging of municipal sewer systems.
Faced with a sudden interruption, Harris reacted quickly.
"You're right, bro," Harris responded from the podium.
"I'm right on this point," the man continued.
Harris went on to say, "I know you're right. How about talking to me later? “
The man asked loudly, "Why don't we cooperate with Chinese to build the Belt and Road Initiative?" ”
Harris continued to respond, "Well, we'll talk after the speech, and I'm happy to talk to you." ”
The man was then taken away from the venue by the Secret Service, the report said. The Daily Mail said the man, Jose Vega, was 23.
The man questioning Harris was taken away by Secret Service agents.
