The only trouble is that it is more difficult to maintain bonsai than bonsai. So, in the face of boxwood as a bonsai, how do we carry out its daily maintenance work?
First of all, the 5 major management points of the plant.
First, soil.
Generally speaking, boxwood often requires the use of growing medium, both loose and breathable, good drainage, fertility and other characteristics, friends who intend to distribute soil by themselves, can be in the saprophyll soil, mixed with an appropriate amount of bran ash, and then formally put into use after fully mixing it. To be on the safe side, any soil needs to be thoroughly sterilized before it can be used for flowering.
Second, lighting.
The plant is native to many high-altitude areas around the world, sufficient light helps them to better complete photosynthesis, generally in addition to the summer sun, I am afraid that it will have a feeling of overwhelm, other times of the year, especially the cold winter, everyone needs to try to shine all daylight.
3. Water.
Different from ordinary plants, the root system of boxwood is inherently underdeveloped, unable to rely only on its own supply of water from the outside to the inside, usually need to increase the intensity of daily water spraying, so as to achieve the purpose of water replenishment. For example, in the spring, summer and autumn, the number of water sprays per day needs to be greater than 5 times; in winter, it is as little as 3 times, and more depends on the actual situation. As for the question that people are more concerned about – when does the plant need to start controlling water? The answer is very simple, as long as the new shoots of boxwood successfully grow to about 2 to 3 inches, we need to adjust the method of spraying water as soon as possible and reasonably control it at about 2 to 3 times a day.
Fourth, fertilize.
On the surface, the natural nature of flower fertilizer, mild and long-lasting fertility, not easy to cause fertilizer damage, in fact, a bunch of large and small problems, is not the best choice. First, the proportion of internal elements in this type of flower fertilizer is unscientific; second, the fermentation and storage of natural fertilizer is more difficult. Therefore, for those friends who are not yet skilled in flower raising skills, Xiaohua suggests that urea and potassium fertilizer can be mixed in a certain proportion to make liquid flower fertilizer with a moderate concentration, and then put into use between the valley rain and the summer, during the period, the frequency of fertilization should not be too high, about ten and a half days a month, it is more than enough.
Fifth, pruning.
The first step is to create a suitable shape for it according to your own preferences.
The second step is to remove the boxwood branches, excess branches and some dead branches, weak branches, diseased branches, rotten branches...
In the third step, the pruning of boxwood cannot be achieved overnight, and it needs to be divided into multiple times.
Most plants, as long as they are stained with the word bonsai, their own value will immediately double, and the preciousness is self-evident, as is the case with boxwood. As far as Xiaohua knows, when planting boxwood in pots, do not change pots frequently every year, in principle, you should consider changing pots at least every 7 years.
After all, the first three years, is actually the growth and development period of the plant, the plant fatality rate is higher, when changing the pot slightly improper, they will be fragrant and dead; as for the next 4 years, it is a special stage of its desperate growth, during which it is necessary to strictly do a good job of water and fertilizer, and other aspects of maintenance and management, so as long as it successfully survives these 7 years, the vitality of the plant will become significantly stronger, even if there is a mistake when changing the pot, they will not die easily.
