Unlike conventional in vitro fertilization (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is a technique used by experienced embryologists to inject a morphologically normal sperm into an egg, usually for the treatment of infertile couples with severe hypospermia.

For patients with azoospermia, under certain conditions, the fertility center doctor needs to work with andrology specialists to help infertile couples obtain embryos, and while performing ovulation induction and egg retrieval surgery on the woman, the andrologist performs sperm retrieval on the man for ICSI treatment. According to the different ways of obtaining sperm, it is divided into PESA, TESA, MESA-ISCI.
DUMBBELL
PESA is the English abbreviation of percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration (percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration), which uses a fine needle to puncture the epididymis and extract the epididymis fluid to obtain sperm, which is suitable for obstructive azoospermia patients with enlarged epididymis. The surgery is less painful and has no effect on testicular function.
BRIM
TESA is the English abbreviation of percutaneous testicular sperm aspiration ,and PESA is different in that the puncture site is the testicle, and sperm is obtained by sucking a small amount of testicular spermatosis tubules, which is suitable for patients with azoospermia with normal testicular spermatogenesis and infertile people with ejaculatory dysfunction. The damage to the testicles is small and the recovery is fast after surgery.
MESA
MESA refers to microsurgical epididymal aspiration sperm (MESA), which is performed by surgically aspirating epididymal fluid under the microscope for ICSI treatment. The surgical trauma is small, does not affect the spermatogenic function of the testicles, obtains a high concentration of semen, and the operation can obtain more and better quality sperm under microscopic visual conditions.
