"When I think of our work's relationship with the movement for black lives, and the civic unrest that swept the country, I think of 'I lost you,'" explains Tony Award-nominated screenwriter Dominic Morrisso.
"I wrote this song to express the contradiction between seduction bands in the social turmoil of their hometown and becoming popular artists. In hindsight, I actually wrote more than that. The emotion in this video always reminds me that there's something called Righteous Rage, and that the campaign for black human rights didn't start today, it started in Ferguson in 2014, it started in Los Angeles in 1992, and it started in Detroit in 1967. History will continue to repeat itself until we find the right direction. ”
Ain't Too Proud's music director and arranger Kenny Seymour produced the video.
The musical Ain 't Too proud follows the journey of the band Temptation from the streets of Detroit to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The musical was released on March 21, 2019 and received 12 Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical. Directed by two-time Tony Award winner Des McCanugh and choreographed by Tony Award winner Sergio Trujillo.
