In the past 40 years, in the historical wave of reform and opening up, Chaozhou has not forgotten its original intention and forged ahead. Today, Chaozhou is one of the 134 national historical and cultural cities, the capital of Chinese porcelain, and the capital of Chinese arts and crafts. Here the rivers and seas are beautiful, the mountains and rivers are splendid, and every day is welcoming new changes; the people here, working hard, happy to live in peace, are embracing new aspirations every day.

On weekends, Chaozhou Ancient City Arch Street is bustling with tourists. A group of tourists from Hebei drove all the way from their hometown, ready to travel to Hainan, passing through Chaozhou on the way, and playing here for a few days. They bought a variety of snacks and crafts along the way, watched theatrical performances, and were considering whether to eat Teochew beef hot pot or Teochew cuisine restaurant at noon.
In the Zaiyang Tea House, several tourists are sitting around a table, watching the Chaozhou music performance on the stage with relish. "Drinking Chaozhou Gongfu tea here is particularly atmospheric, and there is a feeling of crossing to the Republic of China."
"I didn't expect to see embroidery when I traveled in Chaozhou." Coinciding with the 2018 Chaozhou International Embroidery Art Biennale, in the ancient city of Xu TuomaFu, several tourists gathered in front of the embroidery master and watched intently enjoy the embroidery technique display of flying needles and threads.
These are several scenes common in the ancient city of Chaozhou at present. In recent years, the tourism industry in Chaozhou Ancient City has flourished, and in the three days of the 2019 New Year's Day holiday alone, chaozhou city scenic spots received 984,800 tourists, an increase of 28% over the same period last year, and the total tourism income reached 73.3018 million yuan.
From 1978 to 2018, China's reform and opening up has gone through a magnificent 40 years, and the tourism industry has achieved rapid development with each passing day. With the progress of society and the continuous improvement of people's living standards, tourism has become a rigid demand to meet people's pursuit of a better life.
In fact, although Chaozhou is now well known and loved by more and more tourists at home and abroad, it once had rich tourism resources that no one knew.
According to the Chaozhou Chronicle, tourism in Chaozhou City began in June 1958 at the Chao'an County Overseas Chinese Travel Service Agency (the predecessor of the City's China Travel Service). At the time of its establishment, there was only 1 manager and 6 waiters, and in 1960 the number increased to 24. In April 1978, the construction of Chaozhou Building began, and Chaozhou's tourism industry began to emerge. After the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the policy of "invigorating and opening up to the outside world" was implemented, so that Chaozhou's tourism industry truly entered a period of development.
In 1987, Chaozhou City opened up a number of tourist routes, the tourism experience is relatively simple, the basic content is to tour the scenic spots with groups. According to statistics, in 1988, Chaozhou received a total of 111,500 Chinese and foreign tourists (including groups and individual customers).
In March 1996, the Third Plenary Session of the Ninth Cpc Chaozhou Municipal Committee proposed to "develop the tertiary industry led by tourism", taking tourism as an important part of the tertiary industry in The development of Chaozhou's tertiary industry economy, and initially establishing the development status of tourism. From 2003 to 2004, the maintenance project of Guangji Bridge (commonly known as Xiangzi Bridge), one of the four ancient bridges in China, and the restoration project of Paifang Street, a famous historical and cultural street in Chaozhou City, were launched successively.
From September 30 to October 2, 2004, Chaozhou held the first Chaozhou Cultural Tourism Festival, held the Chaozhou Cultural Boutique Exhibition within three days, held the "Hanyu and Chaozhou" Academic Seminar, the Chaozhou Tea Culture Seminar, set up the Chaozhou Cuisine Exhibition Hall, and held the "Hometown of China's Chaozhou Cuisine" award ceremony... The first Chaozhou Cultural Tourism Festival with the theme of "Linghai Famous State Range Rover, Korean Wind and Tide Charm and Pleasant Feeling" made Chaozhou City fully "lively".
After years of development of tourism, Chaozhou's popularity is rising, and more and more tourists are coming to chaozhou. In 2004, Nanfang Daily published a photo of three people riding bicycles together, and Chaozhou merchants who seized the business opportunity began to introduce multiple bicycles to rent to tourists, spending 5 yuan to ride their own bicycles to tour the ancient city. At the same time, the footage of tourists from zhongshan tourist group riding dozens of tricycles was also captured, and a huge team toured the ancient city while listening to the legendary stories of the ancient city, and the well-preserved old streets and alleys of the ancient city have attracted many tourists at home and abroad to look for nostalgia.
With the restoration and opening of a number of fist tourist attractions such as Paifang Street and Guangji Bridge and the improvement of other tourism supporting facilities, the number of tourists visiting Chaozhou Ancient City has risen rapidly. During Golden Week 2013, the ancient city of Chaozhou, Guangji Gate, was once again full of tourists, tasting flavorful snacks and buying souvenirs with local specialties.
Stepping into 2019, entering the ancient city of Chaozhou, tourists do not worry about no play activities, they can go to the Chaozhou Folk Culture Exhibition Hall to watch the Chaozhou Folk Culture Exhibition Hall, Tea Art Performance, Han Li Lecture, Han Dance, Chao Opera Singing, Poetry Recitation, Musical Instrument Performance, etc., feel the rich "Tide" culture, and watch the "Light of Fengcheng" light show and the Paifang Street Literary and Art Show at night.
In addition to dozens of characteristic homestays and inns, they have launched a variety of warm services for tourists, and have become new attractions in the ancient city with their unique architectural style and cultural atmosphere; New formats such as Zaiyang Tea House, Qianting Tea House, And Timeline Bookstore have created a cultural interactive experience with Chaozhou characteristics, and tourists at home and abroad have come to visit; all kinds of new specialty restaurants are full, providing tourists with diversified dining options.
Out of the ancient city, tourists can also experience Chaozhou ecological tour, rural tour. Fenghuang Town, Chao'an District, held the second International Chaozhou Phoenix Single Bush Tea Cultural Tourism Festival, attracting domestic and foreign tourists to enjoy the beauty of Phoenix Mountain, taste Phoenix Single Bush Tea, and feel the cultural heritage of Single Bush Tea for nearly a thousand years. Purple Lotus Forest Resort, Green Sun Resort Ecological Zone, Fengxiangxia Tourism Area, Raoping County Qinglan National Geopark, Yuyao Mountain Villa and other tourist attractions have tried to carry out various theme activities; the surrounding farms in the urban area have blossomed everywhere, and pastoral scenery and seasonal seasonal objects have attracted tourists to come here.
In the course of 40 years of reform and opening up, Chaozhou has continuously created a driving force for the development of Chaozhou tourism by virtue of the protection and development of tourism resources and the excavation and innovation of tourism experience.
