The national opera "Half a Red Army Quilt" with major revolutionary historical themes is a gift work celebrated by Hunan Province and Changsha City to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. The play is directed by the Propaganda Department of the Hunan Provincial CPC Committee, co-produced by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Hunan Province, the Changsha Municipal CPC Committee and the Changsha Municipal People's Government, and jointly produced by the Propaganda Department of the Changsha Municipal CPC Committee and the Changsha Municipal Bureau of Culture, Tourism, Radio, Film and Television, and is created and performed by the Changsha Song and Dance Theater, performed by the Changsha Symphony Orchestra, and co-organized by the Central Ethnic Song and Dance Troupe and the Conservatory of Music of Central South University of Forestry and Technology. At present, as the only opera in Hunan, the play has won one of the 7 key support plays of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in the 2020-2021 "Chinese National Opera Inheritance and Development Project" and the "Stage Art Creation Project celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China" and the "Centennial 100-part" creation repertoire.
Huang Dingshan, former head of the Platon General Political Opera Troupe, famous director, artist and drama educator, served as the chief director, Ren Weixin, a national first-class screenwriter, famous planner, writer and poet, and Du Ming, former head of the Soldiers' Cultural and Labor Troupe of the Political Department of the Guangzhou Military Region and a famous composer, served as the composer. At the same time, the famous tenor Wang Hongwei, soprano singer Liu Yizhen, baritone singer Yang Xiaoyong, mezzo-soprano singer Zhang Zhuo and others were invited to join the starring role. The main creative team revealed at the press conference that at present, the play is being rehearsed intensively, and two acts of musical theater rehearsals have been completed, and the work of lighting design, stage design and production, costume design and production is being carried out in an orderly manner, laying a good foundation for the premiere of the play. From July 9th to 10th, "Half a Red Army Quilt" will be premiered at the Grand Theater of Meixi Lake International Culture and Arts Center in Changsha.
