Internet trolls and stalkers are a major problem on social networks, especially when many people choose to make their profiles public for professional reasons but attract the attention of undesirable people who pollute their comment sections. Instagram is a gathering place for many influencers, and the platform is helping users manage unwelcome followers.
Reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi found that Instagram is developing two new tools that can prevent people from seeing users' posts.
The first is the ability to block all followers, not one at a time. This will greatly reduce the user's attention management effort.
The second is that not only can the account be blocked, but any account created by the user can also be blocked.
It's unclear how Instagram knew other accounts were created by the same person, but some sort of detection technique could be involved.
Sure, these tools will be in addition to the privacy tools that Instagram is already using, but as mentioned earlier, many people would rather keep it publicly present while still not wanting everyone to be able to view and comment on their posts.
