Entering May, South China has turned on the hot mode, and this time is particularly nostalgic for the coolness of Yunnan. As the provincial capital of Kunming, it has many tourist attractions, and the most well-known one is Dianchi Lake. But many people don't know that the city's Green Lake was originally a bay in Dianchi Lake, and later became a clear lake due to the decline in water level. Before the Yuan Dynasty, the water level of Dianchi Lake was high, and it also belonged to the small lake bay outside the city, with many rice fields, vegetable gardens, and lotus ponds, so it was called "Cai Haizi". In the early years of the Republic of China, it was converted into a garden, the garden was full of willow trees, and there were many kinds of lotus flowers in the lake, which was called "Green Lake". Today, it has become a great beauty of Kunming, famous for its "Spring Dawn on the Cuidi Causeway", which people call "an emerald embedded in the city of Kunming".
There are two main causeways in Cuihu Park, namely the Nguyen Causeway, which runs from north to south, and the Tang Causeway, which runs straight to the east and west. Among them, the Nguyen Causeway was built in 1834 by the governor of Yungui, Nguyen Yuan, and the Tang Causeway was built in 1919 by Tang Jiyao, then the commander-in-chief of the Founding Alliance of the Three Provinces of Yunnan, Sichuan and Qian.
The two long causeways divide Cuihu Into five scenic spots- The Huxin Island Scenic Area is dominated by Qing Dynasty buildings such as Huxin Pavilion and Guanyu Tower; shuiyuexuan and goldfish island in the southeast; Bamboo Forest Island and Jiulong Pond in the northeast; Huludao island and Jiuqu Bridge in the south; and Haixin Pavilion in the west.
The lakeside of the park is full of weeping willows, spring and summer lotus willows, clear water and blue sky, green and beautiful, famous for "green lake spring dawn".
Green Lake is also a wintering colony of red-billed gulls, and every winter thousands of red-billed gulls fly from the north come here over the mountains, once a year, never stopping. They frolick here and compete for bait, and "Green Lake Gull Watching" has become one of the most popular landscapes in Kunming.
There is also a Kunming Water History Museum in the park, located in Jiulongchi, Cuihu Lake, which was built on the site of the first pumping station of Kunming's first waterworks, which was built in 1915, and is a small museum with the theme of Kunming's tap water history. Through historical pictures, texts, charts and documents and the earliest tap water production equipment in the history of Kunming left over from the original pump station, the exhibition shows the historical development process of kunming tap water from the founding of tap water in 1915 to the early liberation period in 1950, and those who are interested can also visit together.
Originally part of Dianchi Lake, this park in Kunming is famous for its "Spring Dawn on the Green Causeway", and there is also a small museum in the park!
