Spring is the peak season for orchids, as a kind of plant, the growth of orchids is indispensable for nutrients. Usually, the nutrients of wild orchids are obtained from the soil, after all, there are still many nutrients in the mountain humus layer infiltrated by spring rains every year. Domestic orchids need to be artificially fertilized, otherwise the nutrient content of the growing medium is limited in such a large pot.
Every spring, the most exchanged topics among orchid friends, in addition to transplanting seedlings, fertilization should be regarded as a big topic. If you can properly fertilize in the spring and effectively promote the growth of orchid seedlings, it will be of great benefit to the whole orchid. First of all, strong seedlings can more safely survive the hot summer; secondly, orchid seedlings have the ability to resist pests and diseases in their own right.
In previous articles, I talked about the fertilizers used in orchids, including organic fertilizers (cake fertilizers made of water), foliar fertilizers (potassium dihydrogen phosphate and urea), root fertilization (ternary fertilizers), and growing medium mixed fertilizers (biological bacterial fertilizers). These are common fertilizers for flower cultivation (including orchids), and they are all more effective and have relatively few side effects.
But there are also some fertilizers that orchids can't use, and even absolutely taboo. These fertilizers may play a good role in crop cultivation, but orchids cannot. After all, the physiological structure of orchids is still different from most plants. Once these fertilizers are applied, it is likely to cause the orchid seedlings to die.

Orchids are acid-loving plants, especially its root system does not like alkaline environment, which is also the reason why many orchid friends choose soil as growing medium to plant orchids unsuccessfully, which may be that the local soil is alkaline. Depending on the pH, fertilizers can be divided into acidic, neutral and alkaline fertilizers.
From the strength of the base and acid root of the fertilizer composition, it can also be judged that the chemical properties of the fertilizer are neutral, acidic or alkaline. For example, ammonium sulfate is composed of strong acids and weak bases, so its aqueous solution is slightly acidic; potassium sulfate is composed of strong acids and strong bases, so its aqueous solution is neutral; potassium carbonate is composed of weak acids and strong bases, so its aqueous solution is slightly alkaline. Some fertilizers remain part of the free acid during the manufacturing process, for example, calcium superphosphate often contains free sulfuric acid, and its aqueous solution is also slightly acidic.

Orchids are chlorine-avoidant plants and cannot be applied with chlorine-containing fertilizers. Some agricultural fertilizers look similar in name, and the efficiency of fertilizers used when growing crops is basically the same, but for orchids, the difference is lost by a thousand miles. For example, the common "potassium chloride" and "potassium sulfate" in agricultural fertilizers are also supplemented with potassium fertilizers, but potassium sulfate can be applied to orchids, but potassium chloride cannot.

The "golden soup" in the toilet pit can be diluted to water the orchids, but it must be diluted. But there is also a kind of toilet fertilizer, that is, the human urine fertilizer in the urine bucket, absolutely can not water the orchid, otherwise the orchid seedlings will undoubtedly die, this is raw fertilizer. The fertilizer in the pit is rotten, but the one in the urine bucket is not.

Some orchid friends prefer to make their own fertilizer (in fact, this is a thankless task), and the materials used are more special, such as the sewage of animals (cattle, sheep, pigs or fish), which are put in buckets and buried in orchid pots. Does this stuff have any fertility? If it is used in the field field, it may decay after a long time, and it does have some fertility.
But orchid maintenance uses these things, first of all, the pot volume is so large, even if these things have been prepared in advance, but after entering the pot, it will still rot, which worsens the potting environment. In addition, the smell emitted by the decay of these materials is not acceptable to ordinary people.

Foliar fertilizer is usually characterized by fast effect and small fertilizer damage, but foliar fertilizer application has one of the most basic conditions, that is, ambient temperature. Only when the average temperature of the environment is greater than 15 degrees Celsius, the leaves can absorb and digest these fertilizers. When the temperature is too low, the leaves have no digestive capacity, so that the fertilizer will accumulate on the leaves, hindering the breathing of the leaf pores.

When the fertilizer absorption ability of orchids is above 32 degrees, it will slowly weaken, and basically stop above 35 degrees, so it is not recommended to apply root fertilizer to orchids in high temperature summer. If you really need to replenish fertilizer in the summer, you can consider spraying foliar fertilizer at night. When the root is fertilized at high temperatures, a large amount of harmful gases will be generated in the soil, and the poisoning of the root will cause decay.
Of course, in addition to the above-mentioned fertilization 6 taboos, orchid fertilization should also take into account the balance of each element, as well as the subtle proportion adjustment between the elements in different seasons. Only by applying fertilizer reasonably and correctly can orchid seedlings grow well, and it is no longer difficult for pregnant buds to blossom.
