Born in 1963, Chen Linxin is about the same age as Ma Xiaochun and has few chess titles, and won the sixth place in the national individual competition in 1983 and the third place in 1986 and 1988. At that time, Chen Linxin was a first-class master in China, but he could not be regarded as the top chess player. He had a steady record in all competitions, and in 1992 defeated Nie Weiping 3-1 at the 13th New Sports Cup Challenge, successfully reaching the top and becoming the second chess player to defeat Nie Lao in the five-win and losing final.
The stable results made Chen Linxin have many opportunities to represent China in international competitions, and in 1985, when the Japanese Go delegation visited China, Chen Linxin defeated the Japanese leader Sakata Eiko. After the Start of the Sino-Japanese Ring Match, Chen Linxin successively played in the fourth, sixth, eighth and ninth tournaments, and won consecutive victories over Mitsushi Kato and Satoshi Yuki in the eighth tournament, and made battle achievements. In 1991, Chen Linxin defeated Japan's strong Kudan Yamashiro Hiroshi at the 4th Fujitsu Cup.
In the Predecessor of the Nongshim Cup Three Kingdoms Ring Competition, the Zhenlu Cup, Chen Linxin had an outstanding performance. In 1995, he represented China in the fourth Zhenlu Cup, in which the Chinese team was unfavorable, the pioneer Rochehe lost to the Korean pioneer Choi Gyu-bing, and the Japanese pioneer Morita Michihiro defeated Choi Gyu-bing in the second set. Chen Linxin took the stage as the second general of the Chinese team, winning consecutive victories over Morita Michihiro and South Korea's second general Liang Jae-ho, and then met the challenge of Japanese tough general Goro Miyazawa.
