Su Dongpo (苏轼, 1037-1101) this ancient literary hero, he was a Buddhist and Taoist cultivator, but judging from his performance on his deathbed, his confidence in the Tao was obviously greater than his confidence in the Dharma. It is a great pity that Su Dongpo's old friend and Chaozhou Daoist Wu Fu (1004-1101) took a step ahead of him. Wu Daoshixian died in the middle of December of the third year of the Song Dynasty, Su Dongpo died in the following year, and Emperor Huizong of Song built the JingGuo in July 28. I was thinking that if Wu Daoshi were to "go away" a few months later, he would definitely give Su Dongpo the best advice like Abbot Wei lin (about 1036-?). It can be seen that Buddhism places "faith" at the top of "faith and interpretation", and compassion is extreme. Su Dongpo, on the other hand, lacked the key bit of luck. Woohoo Dongpo! Perhaps, Wu Daoshi already knew Su Dongpo's mentality and decided to take it as a plan, so as not to let the abbot and Daoist priest be at the scene when Su Dongpo was dying, causing deeper misunderstandings among others. In any case, we, the descendants, should be grateful for this meaningful life drama starring a generation of literary heroes and co-performed by Buddhas and Taoist masters. Wu Daoshi is haunted, I saw it in the "Biography of Su Dongpo" written by Lin Yutang (1895-1976). Excerpt a paragraph:
In April of the first year of Emperor Zhezong's reign (Zhao Xu, 1077-1100), Zhang Huan (1035-1105) took Su Dongpo as the first to open the knife. Su Dongpo was the first person to be demoted to Lingnan. In September, he crossed the famous Dayu Ridge. Between Nanxiong and Guangzhou, he met wu fu, an old friend of the Taoist priests. Since then, during Su Dongpo's exile, he has been in close contact with Wu Retro.
Wu Retro is a strange person, in the past years, in su Dongpo's life, he has suddenly appeared in different places. Su Dongpo first met him in Jinan, and later in The Capital. Now we suddenly met again, not somewhere else, but here.
Wu Retro is a true Taoist, physical, relaxed, carefree, which is extremely important to The Taoists, because of their strong bodies and few desires, most of them can live a free and comfortable life that people envy. To attain this kind of free life, it is necessary to get rid of fame and fortune, eat rough tea and light food, dress and live in a place that is not exquisite, walk thousands of miles, sleep in the wilderness, and do not regard it as a hardship.
Wu's retro retro is hidden from time to time, which is equivalent to reminding Su Dongpo at any time that if he is not entangled in politics, he will live that kind of wandering and uninhibited life.
In the first month of the third year of yuan fu (1100), Zhezong died at the age of twenty-four, leaving behind a generation of dead, decadent, and exhausted scholars. His father, Emperor Shenzong (赵顼, 1048–1085), had fourteen sons, and only one of his sons, Liu Meiren (Liu Qingjing, 1079–1113), died young. He was succeeded by his younger brother emperor Huizong (赵佶, 1082-1135). Behind Emperor Huizong were thirty-one sons, several famous paintings, and a chaotic country.
In May, Wu Retro, a crane-like figure of that era, reappeared, telling him about Su Dongpo's amnesty and telling him to transfer to a county on the western side of the Leizhou Peninsula. This news was soon confirmed by a letter from Qin Guan (1049-1100), who was in Leizhou and had just received an amnesty order.
It took him a long time to leave Hainan Island. He waited for a big ship in Fujian to cross the sea, but he waited for some days, so he had to cross the sea with Wu Gui, his son (1059-1119), and his big dog "Wuzui". This group of people went to Leizhou to visit Qin Guan together, and then Wu Fu left on his own and disappeared.
Su Dongpo and Wu Retro have traveled all over China in their lives, but su Dongpo is driven by the orders of others, while Wu Retro is completely at his own will and is not ordered by others. In retrospect, Su Dongpo must have been very willing to live with Wu Retro, that way, he would be happier and freer.
In October, he arrived in Guangzhou and was reunited with his children and grandchildren. His son Su Ji (1070-1126) had come from the north to visit his father. Su Dongpo said in his poem that conscious life is like a dream.
There were many people who hosted a banquet for him in Guangzhou. In his second year in Hainan, it was rumored that he had died. At a banquet, a friend joked to him, "I thought you were dead." ”
Su Dongpo said, "Yes, I am dead, and I have also arrived at the Yin Cao Mansion." On the road of hades, he met Zhang Huan and resolved to return the yang again. ”
This big family, with young women and babies, took a boat to Nanxiong together. Before they had gone far, Wu And a group of monks caught up with them and spent a few days on the ship with the great poet. Suddenly Wu Fu became ill and died soon after, so it was so simple and convenient. When he was dying, Su Dongpo asked what advice he had, and he smiled and closed his eyes.
