According to Jianjian, the Shanghai Middle East Studies Forum has been successfully held for four sessions. The inaugural forum was launched in June 2017 at Shanghai University of Chinese. The forum has become an important platform for promoting the construction of disciplines in related fields, strengthening academic exchanges, and building an academic community, and has initially formed brand benefits and produced important academic impact. Shanghai Overseas Chinese University will continue to strengthen its ties and cooperation with all parties, continue to support the construction of the "Shanghai Middle East Studies Forum", and coordinate with all parties to jointly build this brand.

According to Jian jian, Shanghai Chinese University focuses on promoting knowledge innovation and interdisciplinary integration in multidisciplinary fields, expanding research in the global knowledge field of countries and regions including Middle East studies, continuously strengthening the construction of academic platforms including middle East research institutes, and focusing on creating a high-end think tank cluster that integrates theoretical innovation, discourse dissemination and application of achievements. In December 2000, the Middle East Research Institute of Shanghai Foreign Chinese University was selected as a key research base for humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, and is a specialized research institution and think tank platform with important academic influence. In recent years, the Institute of Middle East Studies has focused on major theoretical and practical issues in related fields, actively docked and served the needs of national and local development strategies, actively promoted the construction of new think tanks, strengthened public opinion guidance, built China's Middle East narrative discourse, and strived to provide intellectual support for China's Middle East diplomacy and China's participation in the governance of the Middle East region.

In his speech entitled "Suez Canal War and International Order", Researcher Wang Jian, Director of the Institute of International Studies of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences and Director of the Editorial Board of International Relations Studies, reviewed the research on the Suez Canal War at home and abroad since the 1990s, and analyzed the impact of the Suez Canal War on the regional and international order. Professor Fan Hongda of the Institute of Middle East Studies of Shanghai University of Foreign Chinese conducted an analysis of the Palestinian question from the perspective of a community with a shared future for mankind in his speech entitled "Observations on the Palestinian Question from the Perspective of a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind". In his speech entitled "Returning to the Scene of the Coup: The Division and Transmutation of Islamic Politics in Turkey", Professor Liu Yi of the Center for Turkish Studies in Turkey analyzed the possibility of Turkey's transformation from a secular republic to an Islamic republic in the three major elections of president, parliament and local government in 2023, and believed that economic and people's livelihood issues are the most important concerns of the Turkish people. Professor Wu Lei of the Institute of International Relations of Yunnan University analyzed the international energy transition and its impact on the political economy of the Middle East in a speech entitled "Middle East Energy under the Unprecedented Changes in a Century". Chen Yubao, senior economist and director of the Production and Investment Research Center of the Mediterranean Research Institute of Zhejiang Chinese University, introduced and commented on the overview, impact and risks of the new canal project in a speech entitled "Research on the Overview and Investment Risks of the Istanbul Canal Project in Turkey". Sun Xia, an associate researcher at the Institute of International Studies of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, made a unique observation and analysis on the issue of energy cooperation between China and Middle East countries in her speech entitled "Energy Cooperation between China and the Middle East with the Goal of Sustainable Energy Relations". Bao Chengzhang, associate researcher at the Middle East Research Institute of Shanghai Chinese University, made an analysis and judgment on the energy and power crisis and power reform in Lebanon in a speech entitled "Lebanon's Power Crisis and Power Reform". Zhao Jun, associate researcher at the Institute of Middle East Studies of Shanghai Chinese University, analyzed the adjustment of Iraq's oil policy and its causes and impacts in a speech entitled "Reasons and Impacts of Iraq's Oil Policy Adjustment". In his speech entitled "Turkey's Eastern Mediterranean Strategy and Influencing Factors", Wang Jiani, a lecturer at the Turkish Center for Turkish Studies in Turkey, commented on Turkey's Eastern Mediterranean Strategy and related influencing factors. Qian Xuming, associate researcher and assistant director of the Institute of Middle East Studies at Shanghai University of Foreign Chinese, analyzed the issue of Sino-Arab energy cooperation in the new era in a speech entitled "Analysis of Sino-Arab New Energy Cooperation in the New Era".

The sixth offline sub-forum is the "2021 Shanghai and Foreign Institute of Middle East Academic Committee Meeting and Academic Seminar", which is divided into two sessions.

The first session was the change of the academic committee, which was presided over by Sun Degang, director of the fourth academic committee of the Middle East Research Institute of Shanghai University of Foreign Chinese. The meeting unanimously approved Ding Long and 17 other experts as members of the Fifth Academic Committee of the Middle East Research Institute of Shanghai Chinese University (Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education) in the form of collective voting, and unanimously approved Professor Ding Long as the director of the Fifth Academic Committee of the Middle East Research Institute of Shanghai Chinese University. Professor Ding Jun, Director of the Institute of Middle East Studies of Shanghai University of Foreign Chinese, thanked Director Sun Degang and the Fourth Academic Committee led by him for their excellent work, and looked forward to the new committee continuing to contribute ideas and wisdom to the construction and development of the Institute of Middle East Studies, a key research base for humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education.

Professor Ma Xiaolin, Dean of the Institute of Mediterranean Rim Studies at Zhejiang Chinese University, analyzed the many risks facing the expansion of the SCO in a speech entitled "Potential Risks Caused by the SCO's Absorption of Iran". Tang Zhichao, director of the Political Research Office of the Institute of West Asia and Africa of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said in a speech entitled "The New Characteristics of the Current Geopolitics of the Middle East, The New Trends and China's Responses" that the current geopolitics and regional situation in the Middle East are showing a slowing trend. Professor Jin Zhongjie, vice dean of the Arab College of Ningxia University, introduced the latest achievements of the China-Arab Expo in his speech entitled "Looking at the Development of China-Arab Cooperation from the Achievements of the Fifth China-Arab States Expo." Zhang Yuan, a researcher at the Institute of Middle East Studies at Shanghai Chinese University, made a theoretical interpretation of issues related to the exchange of governance experience between China and Middle Eastern countries in a speech entitled "Theoretical Interpretation of the Exchange of Governance Experience between China and Middle Eastern Countries". Professor Ding Jun of the Institute of Middle East Studies of Shanghai Chinese University analyzed and judged the development trend of Middle East civilization in his speech entitled "The Development Trend of Middle East Civilization under the Great Changes of the Past Century".

The closing ceremony of the forum was presided over by Sun Degang, director of the Middle East Research Center of the Institute of International Studies of Fudan University, Li Weijian, vice president of the China Middle East Society, and Ma Xiaolin, dean of the Institute of Mediterranean Studies of Zhejiang Chinese University of Foreign Studies, who made academic summaries successively. At the closing ceremony, Prof. Jian Jian, Vice President of Shanghai University of Foreign Chinese, issued a letter of appointment to all members of the Fifth Academic Committee of the Institute of Middle East Studies of Shanghai Chinese University. The 2020-2021 volume of the Middle East Regional Development Report, prepared by the Shanghai Foreign Institute of Middle East Studies, was also released at the forum.
