Like most peasants in the country at that time, the poor peasants in Luxi County suffered from the double oppression of landlords and bandits, so 22-year-old Li Decai, together with other young people in the village, joined the Pingxiang East Peasants' Self-Defense Army and went to the road of resistance.

Beginning in 1931, Li Decai followed the Red Army in many anti-encirclement and suppression wars and broke the conspiracy of the Kuomintang reactionaries.
