"Double Patty" is a coming-of-age film about young people chasing their dreams and embarking on a family journey of growth and development. In the film, Bae Joo-hyun plays Lee Hyun-chi, an aspiring anchor who works tirelessly to achieve her dreams, and Shin Seung-ho plays Jiang Yulan, a former wrestler.
At a press conference held live on February 10, director Baek Seung-hwan introduced that the film is a work that tells the story of two young people running in parallel with their goals and dreams." Describing how the film got its peculiar title, he explained: "When you think of youth, you also think of hunger. The food appears several times in our films as if to say, 'Let's have a meal'. I personally like to eat hamburgers and generally don't eat just one pie. I decided to use the name Double Patty because I wanted to convey the message that eating only one is not enough.
Shin Seung-ho has 11 years of experience as a footballer, and his athletic background makes him the best candidate for former wrestler Jiang Yulan. Pei Will debut on the silver screen with "Double Patty" to show her potential as an actor.
Baek Seung-hwan praised the two actors, saying: "Before choosing these two actors, I didn't know much about their acting skills. It's a project that starts with a discussion of potential. As a female anchor, Pei Zhuyan showed extraordinary preparation, hard work and concentration in order to appear on the screen for the first time. Shin Seung-ho began training two months before filming for the role, and even the accommodation, canteen, and training center are like real athletes. Shin Seung-ho said about his immersive experience: "Because I've been an athlete for a long time, I think there will be a difference between the usual sports and the way athletes train, but it's really tiring. Every single thing is hard, without exception. I played a game with a high school student, but except once, I lost each time. I feel like they're very tolerant of me.
Shin Seung-ho continues: "In order to make myself look more like a real athlete, I also did some sunbathing. Most importantly, through the role of Jiang Yulan, I can express various feelings such as joy and sorrow, happiness, and full of heart. I think everything that happens since reading the script will be my beauty and enjoyment. The director himself helped me create this experience on the spot. Thanks to this, I have no reason to worry about playing the role of Jiang Yulan.
Pei Zhuyan, who plays a hard-working female anchor Li Xianzhi, expressed her feelings about starring in the film for the first time. "The first time I greeted everyone through the movie, I was really nervous and I was a little embarrassed to see myself on such a big screen. I've been losing my mind throughout the movie. She shared: There are a lot of food-related scenes in the movie. While watching, I gained energy and comfort through Lee Hyun-chi and Jiang Yulan.
Regarding her role, Pei Zhuyan explained in more depth: What I am most worried about is that playing an aspiring female anchor, over time, I have to show progress in tone and voice. I think there is a difference between Lee Hyun Chi at the beginning and Lee Hyun Chi at the end, so I pay special attention to this aspect. Baek Seung-hwan said he was very satisfied with Bae Joo-hyun's performance. In South Korea everyone knows Bae Joo-hyun. I love drinking, so I often see posters of her when I go out drinking.
