Taiko Matsuno, a well-known game producer who has developed masterpieces such as Knights Royale, Bountiful Adventure Pool, Final Fantasy Strategy Edition, and Final Fantasy 12, co-developed the PC, iOS, and Android platform SRPG game Unsung Story Tale of the Guardians, which was originally scheduled to be released in July this year due to the developer Playdek's business crisis, but has been postponed to 2016.

Announced at the 2013 Tokyo Game Show, In addition to Yasumi Matsuno, Akihiko Yoshida, the character designer of The Royal Knights, and well-known game and animation musician Hitoshi Sakimoto were also involved in the development of the game. Considered a spiritual sequel to Final Fantasy Strategy Edition, the game is set against the backdrop of a 77-year war between two great powers on the fictional continent of Ras faria, and players will unlock the truth behind this protracted war by completing stories of different protagonists in different eras.

Unsung Story ended crowdfunding on kickstarter in February 2014 and managed to raise $660,000. The game also set an extension target for the home console version at the time of crowdfunding, launching the PSV version for $1 million, the PS4 version for $1.25 million, and the 3DS version for $1.5 million, but none of these have been achieved.

After the end of the crowdfunding of this game, the game development progress was frequently updated until May of the same year, and the update frequency began to gradually decrease, and finally became only updated once every 2 months to 3 months. On September 22 this year, Joel Goodman, CEO of Playdek, updated the development of the game on Kickstarter, announcing that the game was not canceled, but due to the slower development speed than expected, the release date will be postponed, and the beta test of the game will be held next year. As for why the announcement was not released until two months after the game's original release date, Joel Goodman said that this was due to the fact that "Unsung Story" had previously established partnerships with multiple publishers, and it was inconvenient to publish it for commercial reasons.

The deeper reason may be that Playdek has been in a business crisis since January this year, and its employees, including several core members, are in a state of temporary lay-off, including even the core technical personnel who developed the game engine. In terms of results, this has had a considerable impact on the development of The Unsung Story.

The developer of this game, Playdek, was originally a mobile card developer based in San Diego, USA, and lacked 3D game development experience. Based on recent game development updates, Unsung Story will integrate the game's core engine with the Unity engine.

Voices of user dissatisfaction on Kickstarter

At present, many users on Kickstarter who have paid for the game have expressed dissatisfaction, especially the main content of the game that is currently completed is the PVP part that was not mentioned in the original crowdfunding, and the game was postponed in order to test the PVP balance. Many users said that they had paid attention to and supported "Unsung Story" because of Matsuno Yasuji, and they hoped to experience the content of the single-player SRPG game with a profound plot. There are already many users who have asked for a refund under the Kickstarter page of this game.
