Shangri-La is located in the northwest of Yunnan Province, located in the heart of Diqing Shangri-La, because of its holiness and beauty and known as the "paradise", where there are blue skies and white clouds, fresh air, rich Tibetan cultural atmosphere, is a place that many people dream of going to. For many tourists, most of the tourists who come to Shangri-La are directed to the popular attractions such as snow-capped mountains, meadows, ancient cities and temples. In fact, if you want to truly experience the beauty of Shangri-La, sometimes it is also a good choice to go to some scenic and niche attractions, such as Niru Village, which is hidden deep in the mountains and praised by UNESCO experts as the "world's first village".

Secret Shangri-La Niru Village

Niru Village, located in Luoji Township, Shangri-La City, is one of the three rivers of the Nu River, Lancang River and Jinsha River, one of the landmark nomination sites for World Natural Heritage and Natural Wonders, and the only pure Tibetan village in Luoji Township. Surrounded by mountains and covering an area of about 80 square kilometers, Niru Village administers three groups of villagers, Nameng, Baizhong and Pula, with a population of about 650 people and all of whom are Tibetan. The beautiful natural landscape, rich ethnic customs and pristine environment make Niru Village praised by UNESCO experts as "the world's first village", which is a secret place in the secret realm. Because Niru Village is hidden deep in the mountains, and the access to the traffic is not very convenient, for a long time has not been known to outsiders, here is a quiet and primitive village, so far living here Tibetans still live a leisurely life of sunrise, sunset, half farming and half pastoral, in which it is like a fairyland. Over the years, with the rise of domestic rural tourism, this primitive village hidden in the deep mountains and old forests has slowly received people's attention and has become a tourist, adventure and hiking mecca for many young people.

Come to Niru Village adventure and play, in addition to the village itself, there are also Many landscapes such as Nanbao Ranch, Colorful Waterfall, Dingru Lake, Sere Lake and Glacier Snow Peak, and unlike other scenic spots, the landscape of Niru Village is pristine, without any artificial intervention. Located at an altitude of more than 4,000 meters, Nanbao Ranch is one of the finest pastures in Shangri-La, with an area of about 500 hectares. There are a variety of wildflowers competing to bloom here. Looking around, the vast grassland, bustling like the sea, cattle and sheep flocks, this scene is as picturesque as stunning.

Two kilometers down from Nanbao Ranch is Dingru Lake, another attraction in Niru Village, which is an alpine ice-eroded lake with clear water quality and surrounded by primeval forests, where many yellow ducks and spotted geese swim freely.

Niru Village is an eternal and tranquil pure land depicted in James Hilton's novel The Lost Horizon, and the only virgin land in Shangri-La. Surrounded by lush green mountains and shaded forests, there are beautiful and pristine landscapes, cave rivers, geological diversity and other natural landscapes. Deep in the valley, there are 4 small villages scattered on the dams in the mountains, and a dozen Tibetan families who are rarely visited, clinging to the sacred mountains, sacred lakes and primitive pastures, and wonderfully embracing the pluralistic worship of Bon religion and Tibetan Buddhism, silently surviving in the depths of the dense forest. Even for those who are born and raised in Shangri-La, niru Village in Luoji Township, which is only 75 kilometers from the county seat, is a completely unfamiliar place. Because Niru Village is located in the world's recognized Shangri-La secret place, it is a place where "people are willing to die drunk there". It is also a mecca for young people to travel, explore and hike.

Explore the village of Niru

The village is surrounded by lush mountains and primeval forests. Due to the low altitude, the plant grows luxuriantly. Patches of birch forests grow, with a golden landscape in late autumn and early winter. Mountain spruce and fir are tall and strong, pointing straight to the clouds, and the canopy is thick and green, which can shelter from the wind and rain. The forest is inhabited by musk, bears, Tibetan horses, chickens, lynx and other rare birds and animals. On the mountain dam, there are small terraces that tibetans have cultivated over the years, and their houses are dotted like spilled pearls in the fields. Not far from the village is a large and small lake, the meadow by the lake is the natural pasture of the Niru people, and the cattle and sheep that control the number of cattle and sheep have not destroyed the ecology here at all, nor have they been polluted in any way. The territory of Niru is dotted with lakes and streams. Colorful waterfall is a huge spring erupted from the cave on the bank of the Niru River to form a Huarong fan-shaped terrace, the formation of 180 degrees high about 30 meters, the waterfall side length of 330 meters of rock surface, spring water from the terrace layer by layer, the formation of drop waterfall, line waterfall, pi waterfall, in the sun shine, rainbow around the waterfall, its landscape stone is very peculiar and magnificent, the local Tibetan people call this waterfall a god waterfall. At the Colorful Waterfall, seeing the water flowing on the pristine tundra will really make you think that you have arrived in a fairyland, the stream is flowing, the flow is the inner impetuosity of the white bubble, and the rest is all your pleasure in nature and the blessing of being in it.

A Niru River originating on the western slope of Songkuangga Snow Mountain runs through the whole territory of Niru, and farmland and cottages are distributed on the slope terraces on both sides of the river. When I walked into the Parmunai Fairy Cave, I could see that the cave was lined with strange rocks, and the ground was stalactite-shaped like Kanda. The hall inside the cave has a stalactite that is now like a conch ditch, which is regarded by the local people as a treasure in the cave and offered to them. Every New Year's Festival, local villagers come here to burn incense and prostrate their heads and pray for well-being.

Dansong Nong Brin means a quiet and auspicious place, where villagers burn incense and pray for peace, and at the same time, the mountain is shaped like a closed gate to block the road. When you light up and approach, you will be reminiscing for the rest of your life, so that you can truly feel the adventure of the wonderland journey. Entering the dense forest, the hissing of cicadas covers the sky, on the trunks of trees, in the fallen leaves, one after another, so that cicadas can find a good habitat and breeding ground, in this era, it is probably a more distressing thing. Everyone casually discussed that this kind of cicada that was molting in the shell would be reduced to human delicacies in the interior, but found that in the depths of the dense forest, there was a fight with death all the time, and a kind of bee with a large jaw was frantically catching these cicadas that had just shed their shells, and they were eating in the leaves, and the cicadas could only helplessly make a dying and struggling cry.

The Yubang River is still rushing, blue and white water, green trees, a branch of red leaves that run out of the side, can't wait to jump out, indicating the arrival of late autumn, on the rushing stream, attracting the attention of everyone. The Niru Gorge, still towering, the rain crashing river, still roaring, the path in the middle of the mountain, has been widened, and has become flat, although the traces of landslides are still there, but it has lost the thrill of the past.

Feel the ecological Niru Village

The first time I saw the title of "the world's first ecological village", it was in the selection of a British tourism website, this almost isolated village was written as a paradise-like existence, and was praised as "the most beautiful secret place in Shangri-La". Niru Village was only known to the world after it was nominated as a natural wonder of the world because of the parallel flow of three rivers (Nu River, Lancang River and Jinsha River). It is said that the first visitor in 2005 was a photographer who stumbled into the area by mistake, and was amazed by the picturesque village of Niru, surrounded by mountains, and then unveiled its mysterious veil to the world.

Although the walnuts in late autumn have been harvested, there are still cracked walnuts on the trees, as if they are waiting for people to come and pick them, quietly swaying with the wind on the trees. About 15 kilometers from Niru to Nanbao Ranch, this is a completely roadless hiking route, only to follow a faint mountain road that the villagers have walked out of over the years, but they accidentally encountered another group of hikers, who cleverly rented a few horses from the Tibetans and rode up the mountain. The ecological environment of Niru Village can be one of the best in the entire Tibetan area, and the road is full of various trees, separated by several small streams flowing by, and the sound of wind blowing leaves, insects and birds, and sounds are in the ears. It is worth mentioning that although Niru Village currently receives less than a thousand tourists, it has never seen a single bit of domestic garbage along the road, not even water bottles and plastic bags, which is in stark contrast to the garbage that can be seen everywhere on the Sichuan-Tibet Line. Perhaps, only true donkey hikers can acquiesce to this agreement.

Located on the shores of Lake Sele, at an altitude of more than 4,000 metres, the Selje yak farm is not only pure in water but also spotless in the air and pasture. The yak produced in the Niru Mountains often causes crazy robbery, and every year it is expanding the scale of breeding, and it is not enough to sell every year. It was difficult to meet a Tibetan, but he replied that the yak stored in the family had long been bought. Further up from the Sele Ranch is Shangri-La's largest yak farm, Nanbao Ranch, which breeds about 1/4 of the yaks in the Shangri-La area, and tents can be set up everywhere on the mountain, but open fire behaviors such as cooking can only be carried out in the donkey friend's house on the side of the pasture. Hiking in the plateau area is recommended to bring more dry food to replenish physical strength, and the mountain is full of mineral water-level mountain springs, which are also a source of drinking water for Tibetans.

When you return to Niru Village from the side of Dingru Lake in the meadow, you can see a cluster of purple rhododendron bushes, which are guided by the mountain wind and waft with the fragrance of flowers. Over the meadow hill there is a nearly 60-degree downhill, winding mountain road, rubble full of pits and unevenness, the physical requirements are extremely high.

Return to Niru Village for a night of rest, and continue hiking to Deji Ranch the next day, personally preferring the flat terrain here with open views, the golden silence on the grassland, the mountains in the distance, the cattle and sheep grazing, full of poetry. I wanted to stay here for a night to photograph the sunrise, but I was persuaded by the herdsmen to return to Niru Village, it is said that there are wild wolves in the middle of the night at the Deji Ranch, and the Tibetan uncle is afraid that we are not safe, so he strongly opposes it... The uncle also said that there are not only wolves here, but also musk, bears, Tibetan horses and chickens and other rare birds and animals, in addition to wolves can shoot, encounter other animals can only take a detour... Looking around, there are only mountains and rivers, blue sky and white clouds, if you use the mood of that time to recommend, that is: Shangri-La is good to pass by, but Niru Village is worth staying for three or five days for the best! The photos show the scenery of Shangri-La Niru Village in Diqing Prefecture, Yunnan Province.
