Two months of vocabulary soared from 2000 to 12000? You can come and go

Hello everyone! I'm Vicky's little assistant Sugar Sugar~

The importance of words in English learning or various English tests is unquestionable, and I believe there is no need to repeat it. But what makes many students bald is not the words themselves, but the memorization of words! We also know that IELTS 7 requires 8700 words, but what if you can't memorize it?!

So is there a secret to memorizing words? The answer, of course, is yes! There are only two key points: master the method + develop habits. Develop a habit not to say, you can regularly and quantitatively memorize words every day, you can also read more or memorize words in the process of watching the play, and even see that there are road signs on the road, and there are words on the snack packages you buy, you can also check the back and back. But that's not the point of today, the focus of today's focus is on the palm! grip! square! law!

We have to admit that there are many ways to memorize words, such as near-antonyms, scene joint ideas, homophone memory law Barabala, but the ever-changing are inseparable from one method, that is, the root affix method.

Human beings remember according to chunk, that is, a large piece of land. Try to recall anything that impresses you, no matter how carefully or as hard as you try to recall all the details, do you still think of a paragraph? In the same way, if you can understand one thing one by one, piece by piece, and establish an understanding connection with that thing in this way, the memory of it will be very strong. The connection can take any form: a story, a cartoon, a lyric, etc., and you can create your own connection.

For example, eight or nine years ago, a teacher taught me that loom is a loom, why? Because the loom is 100 meters cloth

。 The connection was established, and the word loom I remember effortlessly to this day. If 10,000 words are remembered by self-created connections, of course, it is ideal, but the reality is very bone -- let me associate 10,000 stories, you are not seriously ill!

When processing information in batches, the first and most important thing is to master the rules. Root affixes are the rules of English words, remembering and understanding a root chunk will make you understand all words with the same root. That is, even if one day you see a word you've never seen before, you can guess its meaning through the root.

Let's say you see conditionality: take it apart and look at it, it's contra + diction, contra is "against, opposite", so:

-> contraband is contraband

-> contrast is the difference

- > controversy is controversial

-> controvert is a refutation

...... I can go on and on, because all the words with contra were invented in the first place according to this logic, but all the rules are universal.

Looking at the decision again, -ion is a noun suffix that indicates behavior, action, state, etc., and the Latin root is dict, meaning "to say", so:

-> diction is a wording, a term

-> dictionary is where many words are placed, that is, dictionaries

-> dictum is aphorism

-> the prefix e- in the edict means outward, and when said outward, it is a proclamation decree

-> benediction is a combination of benition and dictation, which are connected to say good things, i.e. blessings

-> malediction is broken down into male and dictation, male is bad, and concatenation is bad, i.e. curse

-> predict, pre means the pre in time, in advance, which means prophecy and forecast.

The prefix pre- refers to the pre-in time, pro- is the pre-in place, and fess is another root meaning "say", so:

- > professor is the one who stands in front of him, Professor

-> confess is confession

The root meaning "say" goes far beyond dict and fess, but also nounce, phras (Greek), par (French), loqu, so the accumulation of language is endless, but the principle is the same. Once you find this feeling of three thousand, you will be more and more refreshing, cool to the point of not stopping, your mother told you to eat, you said don't disturb me cool.

With so many roots, where do we start? Of course, the more commonly used, the more cost-effective, just to name a few:

1. Uni "one" means, so:

-> unify is unified

-> unicorn is a unicorn

-> unique is unique

-> union is united

-> unison is consistent

-> unanimous are unanimous

-> unilateral is unilateral

2. Bi means "two", so:

-> bicycle is a bicycle with two wheels

-> bilingual is bilingual

-> binary is binary

-> bisexual is bisexual

-> bisect is divided into two (sect means cut)

3. Tri "three" means, so:

-> triangle is a triangle

-> trigonometry is a trigonometric function

-> Trilogy is a trilogy

-> triplicate is three times

-> Trio is a trio

...... In this way, it can be said that the earth is desolate

Of course, if there are words you really can't see what the root is, don't look at it, because it probably doesn't

Like what

The word maverick, which means "maverick; an animal that is not branded", can't see what the root of the word is when you look up and down, left and right, of course! Because it was the last name of an old Texas man in the 19th century... At that time, Texas people were herding cattle, in order to distinguish which cow was which, the owner would stamp his own cattle on the body, everyone stamped, only this old man did not, the name is beautiful: you are all stamped, that is not stamped is not mine ~ so posterity will use the name of this old man who does not stamp the cow's butt to show mavericks, as well as animals that are not branded... The meaning and origin of the word is so personal that Americans often use it to name all sorts of things, maverick's name as a TV show, the name of a missile, and the Dallas Mavericks! It's this Dallas Mavericks! Do you think this kind of word is going to collapse when you recite it? Or do you also feel that this is the most interesting part of learning a language?

From another point of view, does the root resemble the partial radical in Chinese characters? In fact, all languages have rules. In particular, Indo-European languages, English-> French-> Italian-> Latin-> Greek, the roots learned in English, put into other Indo-European languages, are just as common.

Sugar sugar learned a little Italian and found that it was surprisingly fast to get started, especially words, many of which were memorized at a glance and could not be mixed. For example, serpent, when I saw the word, I guessed that it meant "snake", and when I saw the interpretation, it was true. Why? Because in English serpent is "snake", serpentine means "meandering, tortuous". In addition, everyone has seen Harry Potter, and we all know that the Slytherin Academy symbolized by the snake is called Slytherin, and the word slithery looks very similar to it? The word means "slippery; slippery", removing the adjective suffix -y at the end, slither means "(meandering) gliding, sliding". Sugar Sugar deeply understands at this moment what is called integration! Knowledge is like a puzzle, every time you learn a little is to get one more piece of the puzzle, the more puzzles in your hand, you don't know when you will be able to connect.

Language learning is an innate and unique gift of human beings, and the ability to discover the rules of language grows in almost everyone's genes. It doesn't matter if you don't find it, because you also have this gene, and after you get on the road, you will run as fast. Potatoes will come and be your guide~
