-- A new link connecting the Northeast with the developed coastal areas
Text/Ni Yuan
On the vast map of China, a bold and far-sighted idea is emerging – to build a dam between Dalian and Penglai. This ambitious project will bring about earth-shaking changes and have a profound impact on China's strategic landscape.
First, first of all, the convenience of transportation will be greatly improved. At a distance of 110 kilometers, the construction of highways and high-speed railways on the dam has shortened the distance between the Northeast and the interior by more than 1,000 kilometers. This means that the circulation of people and materials will be more efficient, the exchanges between the northeast region and the developed coastal areas of the interior will be strengthened, and the coordinated development of the economy will usher in new opportunities. Whether it is the exchange of commerce and trade, or the exchange and integration of culture, it will be rejuvenated by this convenient passage and will completely change the face of the Northeast region.
Second, the increase in land area is a major benefit. The addition of about 110,000 square kilometers of new land provides a broader space for the country's development. This not only means that more resources are available for development and utilization, but also provides more choices for the country's strategic layout.
Third, the distance between the capital and the border has been extended by several hundred kilometers, and the security of the capital has been significantly improved. In today's complex international situation, this initiative adds a solid security barrier to the core of the country.
Fourth, when the Bohai Bay becomes a huge freshwater reservoir with a storage capacity of about 1.21 trillion cubic meters, its significance is immeasurable. Over a period of several years, the seawater was gradually discharged and water from the Yellow River, Haihe and other rivers was introduced, making it the largest freshwater reservoir in the world, even larger than Lake Baikal. This will solve the problem of water shortage in Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Tianjin, Beijing, Shandong, Henan and other places in North China in one fell swoop. The adequate supply of water resources will provide a solid guarantee for the development of agriculture and industry, and the ecological environment will also be greatly improved.
Fifth, the 110-kilometer dam from Dalian to Penglai will form a huge deep-water wharf, which will become a high-quality port and provide an ocean trade route for the surrounding provinces.
Such a project undoubtedly faces many challenges, technical problems, capital investment, ecological impacts, etc., which need to be overcome one by one. However, as long as we have firm confidence and wisdom, we believe that this dam connecting Dalian and Penglai will surely become a new engine for China's development and write a new chapter for the country's prosperity and strength.
