The landlord of the self-built house has been controlled by the police

There were also fires last year

At about 19 o'clock on October 19, the staff of the fire and rescue brigade of Panji District, Huainan City, told reporters that the cause of the fire and the location of the fire are still under investigation, and at present, the landlord of the self-built house has been controlled by the police.

On the morning of the same day, a nearby merchant told the Red Star News reporter that the fire started in the Century Hualian Boutique Life Supermarket on Wangwei Street in Jiahe Town, which was a self-built house. A resident of Wangwei Village told reporters that the supermarket that caught fire in the self-built house is considered a large supermarket in the village, and the self-built house is also rented out to the employees of the power plant.

The fire broke out at more than 5 a.m. that day, and the fire spread to nearby furniture factories and rental houses. A map image of the supermarket's address shows that before the fire, the supermarket had two shops on one floor, next to a four-story furniture factory.

The merchant recalled that the supermarket had also caught fire before. In the morning, rescuers arrived at the scene to rescue, and the road near the supermarket has also been fenced and closed. Another local villager also said that there was a fire in the self-built house last year, but he didn't expect it to happen again this year.

Survivors recount their escape experiences:

Unable to get dressed, my cousin jumped from the second floor

The firefighters in charge of the rescue at the scene told reporters that there are migrant workers living in the self-built house, and they are usually working on the second phase of the construction project of the nearby Panji Power Plant.

At about 13 o'clock, Zhou Hui, a Henan worker who escaped from the fire, told reporters about the escape.

At around 5 o'clock that day, Zhou Hui, who was sleeping, was woken up by a shout from downstairs, "It's on fire!" Smelling the smell of burnt paste in the air, he immediately woke up his cousin Zhou Yu on the side. The two usually live in a four-story house built by themselves.

Looking down through the window, the location of the fire was in the supermarket next door. The wind blew the fire bigger and bigger, and the flames climbed up the wall. There was no time to dress, Zhou Hui stepped on his slippers, grabbed his mobile phone and ran. Zhou Yu was looking for a fire extinguisher on the fourth floor and wanted to take it down to extinguish the fire. The further down you go, the thicker the smoke becomes, and "no one can see it." Zhou Hui covered his nose, held on to the stairs, touched the door on the first floor little by little, and finally escaped.

At this time, Zhou Yu in the back found that the fire extinguisher could no longer extinguish the fire, and the flames blocked the way, so he jumped from the second-floor window to escape.

Subsequently, Zhou Yu was picked up by ambulance and sent to the hospital. At about 13 o'clock, the staff of Huainan Xinhua Medical Group North Hospital told reporters that Zhou Yu is currently being treated in the ICU (intensive care unit) of the hospital, with multiple contusions, rib fractures, and chest injuries.
